Presidents have all kinds of privileges that others don’t. Why should their privilege on social-media be diminished? To me the problem is not the platform but the fact that they have such exceptional privilege to begin with.

Honest question: what power does Zucherberg have with regards to allowing or not a post of the president? I mean even if he asks people to delete it, the president surely will demand him to put it back online.

How is choosing between Rust and C++ as the language in which the thing is written in, an important thing to the users who only care about the JS/TS interface?

All these "features" of Deno are super cool, but why reimplement a runtime from scratch :( Can we not benefit in Node from what I essentially see as "package.json not mandatory" - which I think is already achievable with

I think Bob is a very insightful person and has great intuition and probably more experience than any of us. Sure he has certain bias towards certain things; who doesn't really? Saying that his posts are harmful is a bit of a stretch.

If you're bit confused by what this is (as I was) here's a simple TLDR conversation I had with them on Twitter [1]: > Me: Would you say Snowpack is mainly about generating ESM files (and their common code) for each import state

"Sharing data amongst user" - torrents excel at this. Do you have a specific use-case in mind?

No, the pieces you downloaded can be reused for the new torrent download. The pieces will effectively have the same hash hence can be reused for the new digest: http://bittorrent.org/beps/bep_0038.html This is also why

What do you mean? The author (say wikipedia owners) can change the db as they usually would change (using UPDATE queries say). Those write queries will result in the least-amount of disk-pages updates. In the torrent world this equals a min

This is really cool, but why reinvent the wheel? For instance SQLite already has tons of years of optimization regarding storing and accessing files on disk. To make SQLite decentralized (like Hyperdrive) you can put in a torrent. Index it

Indeed. But nothing nothing stops them from storing torrents of torrents. The search index would be just that, the text index. Which would point to another torrent storing the actual content. Assets would point to yet other torrents. Would

Why don't they put their data dumps in an SQLite database and indexed for full-text-search https://sqlite.org/fts5.html Then put the file in a torrent. Let the users seed it. Users can use sqltorrent ( https:/

You’re missing their main goal: having an easier-to-change codebase. Apparently this is way more economically rewarding than performance for Facebook. With that in mind, who cares if the site is slow (btw this is the only complaint of your

Very good roundup! Thanks! But don't you think there's a whole lot of apps that could benefit from being on a canvas rather than being slowed down by browser-stuff? Editors come to mind: CodeSandbox and VScode

I'm a total newb with GPU stuff on the web. But am curious why aren't these GPU frameworks used to render most website? Things such as facebook for instance I imagine would be a lot snappier. Am I missing something?

Indeed that makes sense! Curious though if the "signalling server" can be abstracted away the same way STUN servers are: put a few URLs of signalling servers in the client app and it would choose whichever. They would all need the

But it's a very similar flow as you'd normally do with a URL no? - You'd send someone a link such as http://chat.com/#id - Other person opens http://chat.com/#id redirects to another url, and

Ah indeed. But can't the handshaking be done without rolling our your own signaling server? Here's a great example: https://jameshfisher.github.io/serverless-webrtc/index.html Checkout the process in the cons

But you can use publicly available servers to do that no? STUN servers and such. So you don't need to roll our your own.

Exactly what I thought! Mobx creator did a talk recently on re-rendering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBYbBbjZeX4 Makes me wonder why React doesn't work in the same way... using observable state.

Why is the data model important? Even if your end-users are other programmers (say you're developing an http service) what's important is the API. The data model seems an implementation detail that shouldn't drive the design
