I'm not sure what their (BitTorrent TM) business plan is. First of all you have the problem of the name. The BitTorrent name is tainted with illegal sharing activities, and has been so for the past decade. Then there's the problem

Does this allow for me to be "always on"? The reason I moved from IRC to Slack is exactly this. If there was a way for me to use many different peers to keep my connections alive even when I'm offline, that would make want to

Meh, on the Web you're still constrained by DNS... governments can shutdown specific sites.

Native apps and Web apps are essentially the same thing. They're both running inside a sandbox environment (be it the OS or the browser). The real difference is that the Web sandbox is more constrained. Other than that (and yes I'

What's important in a generation where technology is everywhere, is to find the ingredient that actually makes humans intellectually satisfied, happy and productive. The economy and politics of this "system" is secondary to b

It's sad that Cycle.js isn't getting more attention here on HN. It's truly a novel paradigm - the idea that your app is part of this loop which is entirely reactive, and that's how you communicate with the outside world.

If you like working with declarative code, checkout RxJS and specifically Cycle.js. It's totally isomorphic and lets you think of apps as streams of data.

Why compare stuff happening elsewhere that you don't know about (other planets) when you can compare stuff that you know about (here on earth?). My point is that intelligent life as defined above seems not to be a certain development o

Even if we outcompeted the Neanderthals (or other very intelligent species), they were still very close to us in the tree of life (they were cousins). For a trait to be a high probability outcome of evolution it needs to happen independentl

By pure probability, if we're the first intelligent species here on earth (that is able to build radio communicators) out of what, ~4 billion species that ever existed, what are the odds of us being the first in the entire universe? My

await feels more magical than other language constructs because, at least to me, async constructs are much more complicated than synch ones (if/else, functions, for, etc). A quite important dimension that this await/async syntax a

I don't really like await . It seems to be a syntactical fix which acts in a quite magical way. Not sure if introducing magic to a language syntax is what we want. Rather, we should think about data flow of our async apps differently.

I really think the power of D3.js is within the ability to do "view source" or "inspect element" and look into exactly how things are rendered and being able to change things dynamically to reproduce your needed behavior

I personally wish torrent search engines stop using DNS systems (at least centralized ones) and HTTP servers. What they could do instead is use the DHT feeds idea [1]; share their feed URI (a hash of a public key) which is a mutable DHT key

If the only point of this is for credits and reputation, than I find it useless as there are a variety of ways for one to get credit. The number of citations means nothing compared to how many users are actually using the software everyday.
