these are both general purpose CPUs. They do the same job. Maybe if you were comparing a server chip.

You almost definitely speak the truth, but that kind of attitude towards performance is why so many apps are so awful to use now. Especially if you can’t afford the newest Mac.

Whether or not it's unsupervised, whether or not it's sexist, it seems that a thumbnail focusing on a person's face rather than their breasts is typically going to be more desirable. Depending on context, of course.

I was wondering where I had seen your name before, and then after scrolling through your GitHub, I realized it was your Advent of Code 2020 solutions in Rust. Those were absolutely beautiful.

Apparently Google’s Blimp[0] project was exactly that before being abandoned. [0]: https://github.com/crosswalk-project/chromium-crosswalk/tree...

Correction: the Huawei Mate series also includes 3D face unlock. However, at least the initial version on the Mate 20 was not as secure as Face ID.

The only Android phone with secure face unlock was the Pixel 4, which didn’t have a fingerprint sensor. Some Samsung devices had iris unlock, which was also fairly secure, but even more finicky than face unlock.

I’ve always seen these features as something akin to easter eggs. Stuff you learn over time as you become part of the “in” crowd.

There just aren’t other chips with M1 levels of performance and efficiency. The Surface Pro X, however, is an ARM option, albeit with a now fairly outdated chip. I have high hopes for the laptop chip Qualcomm plans to build with the former

IINA and VLC are great, but I prefer QuickTime when it works, just because the scrubbing is so incredibly smooth. Are there any other players available with scrubbing as smooth as QT?

Another data point is the new flutter Google Pay app vs the old version. On my iPhone 11 Pro, the former is incredibly laggy. The latter is as smooth as you’d expect given the hardware.

I've worked in retail and this is spot on. There are people who did practically nothing but update tags all day. And yeah, any change to the existing software is going to be the real issue. Everything they use is old.

There may be some form of survivorship bias against refreshed math curriculums in many of the people who use HN. I assume many of us are in STEM fields and did well enough in K-12 programs to get there.

Are you affirming munificent's claim of "SV hubris" or do you actually feel you made more of an impact at Mozilla? This is an honest question; I can't tell which way you are trying to go with your comment.
