I don’t think anyone “runs” the federal government. I think offices and processes exist, and I think there’s a semi-hereditary politburo occupying said offices, but I don’t think anyone has much authority.

Some people have money they need to get rid of. Taking a loss on the property is not as big of a problem as having money you can’t justify having possession of. How much of the market that is would be hard to guess. Zero is not likely, thou

Would you get the same result if HN is a popular content marketing forum that’s frequently used to promote new businesses and products? Also, I skimmed the graphs and only concluded that HN contributors have a short attention span. I must l

Smokers are at lower risk of COVID 19 death. Also, why not make being a healthy weight mandatory? I mean, other than it isn’t a patented pharmaceutical product to be sold? We already have determined that indefinite, population-wide house ar

For the same reasons, I think that lucky rabbit’s feet should be mandatory. Also, horoscopes should be consulted prior to attending schools. If you can think of anything else that didn’t work for this or any other illnesses in history, then

I would doubt they went far enough to get meaningful measurements. I think this is just more of the Ivy League enriching itself at the bottomless climate feeding trough. The discovery that light colors absorb less heat isn’t remarkable. I w

Why not round everyone’s bank account up to the nearest $1,000,000,000,000,000? Wouldn’t such unprecedented “stimulus” create unprecedented growth and end poverty forever? Would our newfound quadrillions end scarcity of resources? If not, w

I would call dozens of uses in the core and hundreds in the dependencies aggressive usage. Statically determinant memory use is the main reason we’re not taking advantage of decades of C++ development, after all.

Actix-web makes some very aggressive use of unsafe. Many core Rust libraries do too. If you trust those authors (some very fresh out of school) to have zero mistakes, why would you not trust the C++ STL?

I’m not bothered by it now. The IFR for me is around 3x10-5. I live in a city in the top 10 of per-capita homicide rates in the country. Just living here is more dangerous than SARS. The risk of getting thrush from my mask also bothers me.

I would certainly hope a minimal HTTP library would be simpler than a suite of functions to manipulate and plot tabular data. “My application is slow, the language sucks!” Doesn’t indicate a very serious investigation into the problem.

It’s hardly random. R functions could be noun-adjective or adjective-noun or underscored or camelCase or dotted ... and that’s just naming conventions. If someone, like you, says that Numpy sucks, but R is the real masterpiece, then that’s
