But they do. People defended the show by saying he’ll listen to anyone. The products he endorses and people he has on enjoy gigantic boosts in popularity. Literally nobody is saying, “oh it’s just some dumb show”. A lot of men look to Joe R

Ironic because Fox News has zero credibility. Their prime time anchor Tucker Carlson won against slander charges in court by arguing that he does not state actual facts and instead engages in exaggeration and non-literal commentary. They ar

It’s the ads. The way Brin and Page phrased it in their 1998 paper, they considered ad-oriented search engines to be lower quality. They were going to be more academic. They thought that there was lots of user data to mine in search…for aca

The company is literally too big to fail or care. Break them up. Make search its own company, and most of the rest will almost surely completely die. And monitor acquisitions ruthlessly going forward.

I remember when I thought the people who ran governments were the adults in the room, the experts. Now I literally think the total opposite.

Do you have any examples of activist investors who actually wanted to do harm to a company? I’m incredulous. What a waste of time and money. I usually hear about ones who think they can turn it around.

What’s happening with voter suppression in the US today is contrary to that. Many people are petty and callous. It’s reality. They literally want everyone they don’t like to leave.

Just curious, do you have anything particularly embarrassing to share? Easy to say when everyone on Tinder can’t Google your name and get “alcoholic with herpes”. I would also be open to share if there was tangible benefit today because I’m

Thanks for asking. I don’t personally care. Anything the billionaires deign to give away is a win. I hate people chastising McKenzie Scott for giving away billions of Amazon money but not giving it to workers rights orgs. Literally any givi

Usually there’s a central place where status is being updated and shared by everyone (a Slack channel for example) and everyone in the chain can just read/ping/respond there. Less of a chain.

Super interesting. A place where ipvs or ebpf rules per-host for the discovery of services seems much more resilient than this heavy reliance on a functional consul service. The team shared a great postmortem here. I know the feeling well o

I like to think that some point I would be so rich that the returns weren’t a meaningful reason for me. The old money donated just to get their name on a building. Saying you are funding science, “I’ve got a lab working on that”, may be all

Sometimes when I get in arguments, even as the evidence piles up against me, I find myself digging in further. I get very obstinate and it takes a tremendous step back and exertion of will to say “okay, okay. I’m wrong.” Even then I often f

Perhaps let's just talk running a poker table. It's a platform where people can play a zero sum game against each other. To me, that's what cryptocurrency is. People want to play these games. That, to me, is real value.

Do you consider running a poker table a “real business”? Assuming there were no addicts present, what about a casino? Is that “real”?

A horrible way to prevent theft. Statistically a great way to create career criminals, break up families, and all the side effects that comes with (like more criminals).

As many or more than 165 people dating back to 2008. It’s fully believable they do this because they won’t update their systems and just dump investigations on the police. They bailed on their debts using bankruptcy and are still alive…abho

When I think of adding additional people it adds stuff - now you need space for three or more people’s hobbies, preferences, etc. and when I think of renting I think smaller spaces.

I loosely agree. I feel SSRIs should be used in cases where someone feels so down they cannot function. Once they are functional enough for therapy and other support, they may want to consider carefully stopping.

I feel significantly better when my spaces are clean and empty. It’s like my mind feels less cluttered. It goes the same for note taking - it is like offloading my thoughts. I write it down, and it frees up space. Does it result in more pro

You have a wife and a kid and yet just rent, have minimal furniture and empty walls? How does that work? My partner loves making spaces “cute” and need some plants, art, etc. which I’ve come to appreciate.

You’re talking about a standard PC but my roommate and many others who mined crypto with crates of gpus literally used them instead of heaters. My roommate had to setup fans to push hot air out and bring cold air in it was so hot.
