I like the data binding stuff but other than that I found XAML a huge pain. Lots of auto-generated stuff mixed in with stuff that I edit as well. It doesn't break but I'd rather have some separation between generated stuff and stuff that I

"We’re getting to the point where everything’s a computer in a different form factor. So what, right? So what if it’s built with a computer inside it? It doesn’t matter. It’s, what is it? How do you use it? You know, how does the consumer a

That's pretty funny. iirc you are a desktop Linux user, right? Do you use it because it's "taking over the market" or because it works well for you?

Thanks a bunch for that tutorial! It demystified language implementation and taught me a little Haskell along the way. Oh and showed me the beauty of parser combinators. (I didn't run very far with it but here's my code if anyone is curious

Anyone care to follow this up with a brief article on the more expensive VPS providers? (such as A Small Orange) Are those of us on Linode, Rackspace Cloud, and Slicehost missing out at all?

I disagree, but it's subjective. I loved going from iPod + phone down to just an iPhone. When my 4S arrives I'm going to love getting rid of my point'n'shoot, and not feel like I have to have my DSLR to get decent photos. I have no video

I find your comment really amusing. Your whining and complaining about Marco's podcast doesn't exactly make you look like the paragon of humility, reason, and understanding. It's almost as if HN has become a soapbox for you to complain abou

What a long winded, and hyperbolic, story of doom. Marco needs to get over his fears[1] and store the offline data in Documents. It is user generated and is absolutely not transient nor re-downloadable given that a core feature of Instapape

Why must SSDs match the capacity of HDDs, but HDDs not have to match the latency and throughput of SSDs? Is it only because of the price premium SSDs carry? I don't really see the 2 technologies in competition at this point. Even if there w

I tried Slackware, Mandrake, and half a dozen other distros when I got into Linux around 2001. None of them resulted in a working system for me, and I had no luck figuring out how to fix any of them. (e.g. getting my sound card to work on M

Got any useful benchmarks? Nobody is wondering which language to write their next "hello world" app in. Just for the record I'm not saying Dart is amazing and everyone should use it, all I'm saying is that we should evaluate it objectively.

As me1000 (Randy Luecke) says Dart is not meant for hello world. If you run this through closure-compiler it's reduced to 2000 lines which is nothing next to Underscore, jQuery, Dojo, etc. We all know the benefits of offloading code to a we

If Solaris was ever successful on that scale the masses wouldn't recognize it was Unix either. The masses just don't care about geeky stuff like that, for better and for worse.
