I appreciate that the pieces have been around for a while but the fact that you think tools such as remmina[1] are appropriate for the masses indicates that you don't quite get it. One has to type in a "server" to connect to a remote machin

It doesn't matter how old the tech is. Apple is bringing it to the masses and nobody has done that before. Why? As you said it's 20 years old.

rsync follows the convention set by mv, cp, ln, etc. Source then destination. Even git clone follows this convention.

Good point. The Mac Pro is definitely a computer, but it is the exception. The iMac, MacBook + Pro + Air, and Mini are not like that.

I read reddit regularly but news.yc now fills the role that programming.reddit used to fill a few years ago. Reddit is almost purely for entertainment now.

Yes typical Apple, they view their products as appliances. As Steve Jobs said in 2006 or 2007[1]: "We're getting to the point where everything is a computer in a different form factor. So... So what? Right, so what if it's built with a comp

That's definitely a valid concern. I use fewer site-specific browsers than I otherwise would because of memory usage, but these days many of us have 4-8 GB RAM and running one or two SSBs doesn't break the bank, so to speak.

Your MBP display has smaller pixels, about 130ppi (pixels per inch), while the 27" display is about 109ppi.

Not every device/OS combination can be easily jailbroken. Apple actively fights to keep us out of our own devices, and that has rubbed me the wrong way since I got an iPhone in the summer of 2009. I'll buy an Android or webOS phone next wit

No wonder Lisp got a bad rep for excess parens. I think Lisp is awesome, but I would never want to write a significant amount of that code.

I disagree, but we've gotten a bit off topic. I think Python's behaviour is confusing and basically never what anyone actually wants. Regardless of whether or not you can use other params in defaults, the defaults should be evaluated on eac

Because that can be said more succinctly. It is even easier to read as there is less to read, which I realize is mostly subjective.

Precisely because Python has late binding you would expect the parameters to be evaluated on each call to the function. One thing Python lacks is the ability to use preceding arguments in defaults, e.g. you cannot do this: def f(a=3,

Whether you like Apple or not they are the only ones shipping a decent tablet right now. I'm more excited about HP's webOS stuff than iPhone 5 or iPad 2.

I can't think of how it takes away freedom. But it is less free than other open-source licenses, yet the FSF bills it as the paragon of freedom. I think that's the gist of why there are such feelings towards it. I don't hate the GPL. I thin

The problem is that nobody actually knows what constitutes a derivative work. Hence you have the LGPL for libraries so that you don't have to worry about linking them. The result is that nobody wants to risk tainting their work with GPL cod

Still only 8mbps up. That's another big problem, people want to backup their data and access their media from outside their home. Upstream bandwidth is a big factor in this as well.

They're useful for doing more on the client than server. If your UI runs only on the client then you just have to write a web service to communicate with. You just take the V out of MVC, or you have views that simply emit JSON/XML/whatever.

Nokia had been moving towards an open-source culture. Those are the types they've attracted the last several years. This is a very radical departure from their previous path.
