Copyright has to be abolished for the good of all humanity.

Well sure but why blame it on sci-fi? Sounds to me like those people would create the torment nexus with or without sci-fi. It’s not like it’s super hard to come up with the concept of e.g. colonising Mars.

With rightsholders I mean exactly those big corporations who do nothing else but buy up copyrights to successful art. I for example have never benefited from copyright, neither from GEMA (the German artist association for musicians) - 99% o

Reread my comment again. If your __only__ motivation is money, you will have a problem. I agree it’s necessary to pay artists - but we don’t need copyright for that! There are many tried and proven alternatives.

Im happy to pay the artist directly - which is why I use services like bandcamp or buy artworks directly from artists I know personally. I care little about paying „rightsholders“ and their ilk - so I have zero empathy if they complain abou

We need stories to be able to imagine and build the future. I empathise with the author but he doesn’t really offer an alternative

This is an centuries old argument. Most people don’t create to make money, they create because they __have__ to. If those motivated purely by money stop creating little of value will be lost

If making money is the only reason to create maybe it’s good if they stop.

Don’t worry there are many people out there who have copies of it all, there is no way they manage to get the cat back in the bag even if all governments work together on this. But yea get your own copies whenever possible

Please ban all these AI companies, at this point I have enough OSS models, don’t really need any hosted service anymore. IMO would be best if this stays a highly illegal technology that is only available to a few weirdo nerds /s

So you need a legal process to determine if that generation was actually infringing on copyright. IANAL so I have no idea really, and I think most of the other commenters here can’t say for sure either.

Is a definitive legal ruling even possible? Looking at music for example there are still many cases being fought over stolen melodies and that’s been a thing for generations. I think it’s going to go a similar way with „AI“ - lots of court

Agreed it’s not a fair comparison. And I would love if Firefox gets more adoption (again)! I have converted a lot of people in my bubble - also in general FF seems a lot more popular in EU than in the US, not sure why…

Last time I checked the Linux Foundation had a similar problem, spending 2% on the Kernel development and the rest on the latest tech trends, AI, blockchain, metaverse etc.
