Class =/= race|gender. Could be argued that race|gender equality distracts from class divisions that are far more ingrained.

I only skimmed it but wasn't he just questioning the policy of positive discrimination? Or is there something else? Because that's a pretty mild question to get so upset about.

No, I think his competitive strength is probably mental fortitude, but that's just speculation. We're splitting hairs now. The numbers tilt steeply towards toe-striking at the competitive end, because toe-striking has a higher tec

As a lifelong athlete the on-your-toes style of barefoot running is the best way to run. If you cannot run on your toes you are not built to run. There are rare heel-running sportspeople but running is not their competitive strength. Ove

In that case what else is consciousness but the illusion? If the only known example is my subjective experience then what I call conscious experience is identical to the simulation of conscious experience. IE there's no distinction.

Is it so clear? For one thing consciousness is not necessarily synonymous with the ability to reason. Observe your own consciousness; observe the generation of each individual thought and experience. Are you conscious of their origin or d

You can give out credit backed by BTC but it's impossible to give out more actual BTC than you hold, much like gold, unlike fiat.

I would draw a distinction between that kind of olfactory/territorial self-recognition and the kind suggested by this test which actually implies some kind of mental representation of the self.

Not really since that's not an explanation of the results. The simplest explanation of the results is that ants have some degree of self-awareness.

That is interesting. How do they test that?

Self recognition is considered a big deal because very few animals that we know of are capable of it: most apes, some monkeys, dolphins, elephants, magpies, etc. Notice they also happen to be among the most sapient animals. In this case se

Methodology is important but given that (assuming the results are valid): - Ants ignore other ants behind clear glass but inspect their own reflections. - An ant with a blue dot on its head when shown its reflection will rub at the dot. - A

The two chains will fall out of sync before they're finished. Chance of all 12 proofs being completed at exactly the same time and broadcast to groups of identical computing power every step of the way is very small.

Consciousness is more likely to be an emergent property than a fundamental component of a theory of everything. It is a property of systems of neurons; physical theories operate at a much lower level.
