I was ranting exactly the same just yesterday. Nowadays UI designers seem to have forgotten all about affordances. Back in the day you had drop shadows below buttons to indicate that they could be pressed, big chunky scrollbars with two lin

GPL doesn't help you one bit in this particular situation, because "regular users" would still be using the locked-down stock Android that came with their device. So they still can't install your app. Anyone who is alrea

Same for me with Dzongkha: cha (ཅ) / chha (ཆ) and tsa (ཙ) / thsa (ཚ). I can aspirate the second of these fine, so that's not the problem. Hearing the difference is. This also makes it harder to remember the spelling as I mix

I suppose the better response is that it removes those classes of bugs where they are absolutely unnecessary. Tricky code will always be tricky, but in the straightforward 80% (or more) of your code such bugs can be completely eliminated. I

I like this idea of making the soft skills explicit. Both to the interviewers and the candidate (i.e. in the job posting itself). This would save everyone involved a lot of time, too!

I also had to do a double-take at the blatant falsity of this statement. Software estimation is only hard when it's the first time you're doing it. Unfortunately, most software is a first-time. There are very few specialty shops

If you have worked at a few companies and left on good terms, it shouldn't be that hard to contact them so you can go back. Otherwise, previous co-workers will be able to help out as well.

It's only reckless if you go full force right away. Test the waters with a light load to get the blood flow going, then increase weight as you feel the area is healing/getting stronger. Stop adding load or deload when it starts to

This bothered me too, reading it and the sample implementations I've found so far just bail out. I thought one of the benefits of hash tables was that they don't have a predefined size?

It's weird. Everybody finds ads obnoxious (at least some of the time), yet it's allowed and not only that, it's proliferated in recent years. You'd think something universally disliked would be legislated away. I wish mo
