After I sold my company for enough money that it was obvious I'd never have to work again, my mind went to the same place as yours. Contributing to free/open software is a good one. But also there are so many pseudo-business pro

Yes! Exactly. People often ask me for feedback on their business ideas. Often, one of the first questions is, "Why are you doing this? Is this just for the money?" Usually you can tell when that's the case.

"There are only two hard things in Computer Science: cache invalidation and naming things." -- Phil Karlton Congrats on conquering half of that. BladeRunnerJS is a GREAT name for this project/service. :-)

Thanks for this. I hadn't heard the full quote before. People often quote the “great artists steal” line from him - including Steve Jobs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW0DUg63lqU - but the fuller idea is much more

This sounds interesting, but I honestly don't understand what it is. Is it just 365 questions in a blank paper "memories" book? Anyone know?

I don't aim to be thorough when blogging. They're just succinct little tidbits. Of course there's more to the story, and of course it was a whole-family decision. In fact my wife kinda led the decision even more than me. We

I was a requirement of being with me. A 2nd-date question: "How would you feel about living in the rest of the world for the rest of your life?" Many girls I dated really just wanted to stay near family or friends. Then I found

Exactly! Great answer! The point is NOT to always move! Usually the "Why am I here?" question just reminds you why you are where you are. Being somewhere for great friendships is a great reason.

Agreed. It sounds ridiculous, but I was honestly upset about that 5% minimum payout. Instead I funnel it back into projects that are hopefully useful to others.

Married with a baby. But other than that, I don't know anyone here. That was part of the appeal. I prefer solitude right now.

Yeah. I was really surprised. I was preparing for a less-online-life, then just as I we moved in, we got a notice that fibre was ready. Oh well. I'll give you my wifi password so you can sit on the porch & surf all you want.

Part of the reason I haven't been writing much the last couple years is because I thought, "Ah, it's not fair for me to write about this stuff like moving countries on a whim." But everyone's got their own version o

Thank you Visakan. You got it, and others didn't. A major challenge in communication is to not be misunderstood. I must not have been clear enough. I never said anywhere that everything should be public. Only that I decided my code

Thank you, blah32497. That's exactly what I was trying to say, and wonderfully succinctly put. :-) It could also mean reevaluating what you've made public, and deciding what should be secret.
