If anyone thinks about going for odoo - which I did for a customer - do yourself a favor and try anything else. Here's why: The developer experience is terrible, simple template changes need a your modules to be "upgraded" wh

Fair point. If your usecase actually needs to be able to handle massive loads, then things might be different. But then there will probably needs to be a devops team and careful planning how to architect infrastructure anyway. Also in such

I'm very much on the boring technology side of things with respect to hosting. 40€ / month gets you a very powerful dedicated server that can easily handle millions of requests per day and performs incredibly well and can be manag

Having used 2 XPS13 (9343 and 9370) as my daily driver for years, this is simply not true in my experience. On my 9343 bluetooth did not work initially, and on the 9370 the fingerprint reader is not available (no driver available), but apar

Same thing for me. A quick search did not result in any official changelog, but some forum entries (e.g. [1] and [2]) suggest that random read + write performance under windows seems to have been improved. [1] https://www.elevenf

That's the reason why paying for a domain and custom e-mail adresses is the best option in my opinion. Changing infrastructure / hosting can be done quickly for myself if necessary. Apart from that, knowing that every e-mail I get

Maybe it's just me, but personally I simply don't use saas services unless I really have to or very much like to use it regularly. For the business (I run a small consultancy) the story is different though. It pays for several ser

This is already affecting websites and web apps. At least all of our customers are moving away from Google Analytics and many try to also get rid of other Google services like fonts and maps. I'm very interested to see what this change

What's interesting to me is that from my limited experience with cloud services it feels like the technical skills to set up cloud hostings and a good architecture to be just as much work as setting up dedicated servers or even vps. Or

Even though I don't like paying for software monthly, I think that the JetBrains suite of tools is an example of how this can be a fair deal. 100€/year for tools I use professionally every day and that improve my business is a no-

I happened to buy a used quality induction stove, that has knobs. At the time I didn't think a lot about it, but to me it's the best stove I ever used. I honestly don't know thw reasoning for using toch controls on induction

This headline is worded in a way that makes it quite hard to grasp its meaning. I guess I just like simple language.

I think that it's an illusion for developers (or any creative for that matter) to be productive for most of the time we spend on work. However large or small the actual number is, and what exactly being productive means - I don't

As it happens I used to play the organ and yes latency can be a real issue, especially in orchestras. Orchestras are notoriously behind conductors to the point that conductors conduct ahead of the time they want the beat to be. Drummers in

I love the idea of connecting musicians over the internet. But in many music technology applications latency is critical and from a musician's standpoint the technically achievable latency is not suitable for actual music making apart

In my experience one of the big differences between backend and frontend (and even app development) is that frontend development has an incredibly fast rate of change. What are best practices now might be considered code smell in 3 months.
