It would be better if you made this an actual app to run locally on devices and used something like wasi to get it cross platform.

This is just another webapp, please God please can we go back to making true desktop/native apps again. We have these powerful machines that are under utilized for what they are.

With this Google should release Windows and MacOS app versions of all their iOS and Android apps

But when will Google roll out a stand alone app for meet on Windows and MacOS? It couldn't be that hard and it would have better performance then running in the browser.

This is great to see another cross-platform native"local install" app. I am sick of webapps.

No we have the cloud and everyone just uses the web. We don't need speed ;)

It would be great if this could generate a desktop app rather than another webapp that I need to host somewhere. We need to focus on desktop apps again.

This is google trying to get people more interested in Chromebooks and ChromeOS. ChromeOS device sales have dropped faster and farther than any other compute device in the past year.

You still need the fastest hardware. It would be better if Google just released a true Linux desktop and killed ChromeOS all together. This would allow native application install and better hw support.

We need to go back to making everything available offline, and use local compute power. Chromebooks and the ChromeOS are useless really in offline mode unless you are technical expert. The Linux container and Android support is abysmal unle

You need to make a Windows version of the app. More Windows devices than all iOS and MacOS devices put together.

For financial institutions this is a nonstarter. The data needs to stay local for pci compliance

Just another reason to move back to full native apps. Only use the browser when you really have to.

No support for Windows? There are more Windows endpoints than all iOS, MacOS, and Linux desktops combined.

I'd go with blazor and asp.net core. Stupid fast and easy to build with c#. No javascript needed

When will retool be able to do this for native desktop apps? Especially for Windows. Otherwise, you are leaving 2+ billion active devices off the table

As I have mentioned on other posts. Things like this need to be native apps, and not just a chrome extension or a web app. We need to get away from webapps for everything, and go back to native apps. Heck why do we have package tools then?

Since this is just python code, it should run on Windows and MacOS also. Just compile to a static executable and be done with it.

When it is a desktop or even a mobile app I as the end user have a level of control over my environment that I don't with a webapp. In addition, my interface doesn't change at the whim of the company or developer.

If you want to sell more hw actually sell software or more specifically allow software to be local to the device. We have plenty of space and we need to utilize that hw.

Windows has a lot of legacy code, it is backwards compatible and has many more installs on-prem than Linux or MacOS. Thus, there is a larger incentive to find exploits. Look at Android, a Linux kernel based OS that has as much malicious cod

Only if it could go the other way. Everyone seems to forget about Windows/Windows Server. 80%+ Desktop, and 55%+ Server(Include on-prem 70%+, Cloud 50%) Market Share.

Also, all the college classes and the bootcamps for programming are geared towards webdev. Skipping the largest desktop platform in the world with 80% market share, and 38% share overall for all OSes both mobile and desktop.
