Have there been any studies on 1980s cell phone use ('the brick phone') which had much higher power output? Anecdotally you heard of 1980s stock brokers getting brain cancer but were there any statistically valid studies done on t

Most of modern web is like that Pascal's letter: "I would have written a shorter letter, but I did not have the time." It takes time to make lean sites look good.

On what basis do you think there was no everyday crime in Soviet Union? Having lived in SU there absolutely was normal crime - violent and nonviolent. Levels of crime were presumably like everywhere else. Why wouldn't there be property

I like that Vue is easy to add to an existing site (ie the new jQuery). I dislike that Vue feels too much like Vue and its magic and not enough Javascript. With React I feel like writing normal ES6 Javascript. I love the official Vue docume

As Aristotle said everything in moderation including cigars and pizza. Going into a full blown mega health nut phase is not very helpful either because the end result is not going to be pretty anyways. Now if/when we start making serio

You meant 520M (oops now 475M ) market cap as of June 26th. They raised about 22M in their ICO in January, 2018. It seems to be just another (sh)coin with 'sharding' which seems to mean dividing network in smaller chunks/sha

Intel gutted their budget mobile Celeron/Pentium lines by replacing them with Atom based models. This strategy makes sense for smaller laptops/netbooks but it makes for horrible user experience at 15inches. It is like putting an e

Single core speed is near equal on 3770 and 1700 but you get 2x the cores with 1700. So if you can benefit from 8Cores (ie compiling for one) then it is a nice upgrade. If you rarely utilize all 4 cores on your 3770 then it is a pointless u

Cool idea but I noticed you stopped after week 43. What caused you to 'break the chain'? Was it getting a chore just to come up with technologies to explore?

In some ways this is a positive news in that Bitfinex/Tether managed to have 2.5Billion in bank on June 01st, 2018. That seems rather plausible unless FSS completely messed up verifying bank sources(ie someone impersonated a respectabl

I'd give my left toe to learn to do this in a few lines of code in HTML/CSS3. Desktop centric UI toolkits provide a set of widgets which lets me build up a UI in a predictable way that respects my sanity. Windows Forms, WPF, Qt, v

Many on HN have seen the promise of crypto since 2010-2011. We mined some, we bought some, we dealt with technological issues, we were ecstatic for a while. Yet the big crypto promise is to be fulfilled and we are now on 3rd or 4th big hype

The problem is that even paid books can be horrible. I am a subscriber to Bookbub list which sends out e-mails to daily Amazon sales (0.00 to 1.99) on e-books of your chosen category. Quality wise it does not seem to matter on the price.
