I found reading code from Nixpkgs to be very valuable as well, and can't recommend it enough. I managed to get by using NixOS without writing my own derivations for several months until I inevitably ran into a need to package something

IMO implementing hygienic macros properly is one of the hardest tasks in programming languages, especially since variable capture can cause subtle bugs.

I highly recommend Oleg Kiselyov's talk titled "Having an Effect"[0] in which he talks about - purely functional model of computation and its pitfalls - Actor model, effectful programming with requests and responses and an im

I use Emacs every day, I practically live in it. However there are some things that I wish I could have: - a good terminal mode so I don't need to switch to another terminal, the builtin terminals either lag badly after 10K lines of i

Up to Catalina, macOS used to have the overpowered Emacs calculator[0] preinstalled. Default keybinding to activate it in Emacs is C-x * *. I especially like how it uses RPN but also has an algebraic mode, so one can use whichever is more

The Nixpkgs maintainers are working on this as well. Currently around 29000+ packages build successfully for aarch64 with around 1000 failures.[0] [0] https://hydra.nixos.org/jobset/nixos/release-20.09-aarch64
