For a cheaper version of this (400 vs. 2300 Euros) on the reMarkable tablet, see remarkable_news[0], which runs as a systemd service and periodically refetches the URL of choice. [0] https://github.com/Evidlo/remarkable

Update from tbodt on the iSH Discord: @everyone We got a call this evening from someone who runs App Review. They apologized for the experience we had, then told us they've accepted our appeal and won't be removing iSH from the s

Considering that iSH is about to be removed from the App Store[0] and that the beta can only hold 10,000 people[1], using AltStore is one of the easiest ways to get iSH on iOS now. [0] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25

No, this is to illustrate that despite Nix being purely functional it doesn't necessarily mean you lose velocity when doing things interactively. In production I usually use Docker. Nix can generate Docker images though, so I'd li

Yeah, better documentation is sorely needed in Nix, heck, I can't even look up docstrings in the repl (by default, there is nix-doc[0]. I asked around on IRC about a typechecker for Nix, and people refer me to the Dhall[1] and Nickel[2

Oh, I completely forgot about[0], which talks about TCO in the imperative context (but applies to functional languages as well)! [0] https://dspace.mit.edu/bitstream/handle/1721.1/5753/AIM-443....

That is a good question. Although tail-call is easy to describe and understand I've haven't implemented it myself. I'd also appreciate pointers to resources.

If your langauge is functional (has closures), I would recommend checking out[0] which is a full end-to-end tutorial on compiling a functional language to C and could be adapted to LLVM, using Haskell as the implementation language. Basical

macOS + Nix user here. How is the experience of using nix-darwin? I haven't used it yet for fear of breakage (unlike in NixOS). I still have Homebrew but only for Casks, do you know if this too can be Nixified? > I even went as far

I even "DE hopped" using NixOS, trying out 3+ different DEs for fun, and once I was done I just had to revert to an older generation, no nasty leftovers.

And even when you do screw things up, like accidentally deleting things in the Nix store, it's quite easy to recover as well.[0] [0] https://nixos.org/manual/nix/stable/#sec-nix-store

It's not so bad actually. To add a new package there's only two files you have to touch, add a new default.nix somewhere in the pkgs/ tree and add your package to pkgs/top-level/all-packages.nix. Looking at any of

This is a good overview of NixOS however it's very limited and barely scratches the surface of what Nix can do. I consider it a complete replacement for the "reproducible environment" problem that some programming languages

One parsing technique that covers a lot of ground for little code is parser combinators[0]. And the more space and time efficient Parsec library[1]. Recursive descent is not difficult to hand-roll but the correspondence between the code and
