NixOs manages configuration in a really elegant way with modules. Modules are a structured way of combining different sources of configuration. E.g. you might need to configure a list of users on the system. You might manually configure you

It usually doesnt get that bad because transitive dependencies don't get added to the path. I.e. you actually need to have a list of 1000 direct dependencies to get 1000 path entries. If for some reason you have a crazy amount of paths

IANAL. I imagine a manufacturer would assume liability for an appliance based on an open source design, assuming the design uses a typical open source license that disclaims liability. I'm not aware of a reason why an open source desig

Animation is also a lot harder in 3D. A decent 3D engine will probably need fully featured skeletal animation: blending and interpolation, translate+scale+rotate, inverse kinematics, etc. A 2D sprite-based game might be able to get away wit

This sparks a lot of questions for me. Obviously some markets are hit really hard by covid, but for any company that was already considering layoffs, now is probably a great time to do them and scapegoat covid. Also for the tech companies,

This is discussed in the video somewhat. Copyright allows parallel invention. E.g. 2 people can copyright the same thing as long as neither one copied the other. In the video, they claim this is usually difficult to prove in court if the fi

That reminds me of Baumol's Cost Disease[1]. Some industries become more efficient due to advances in technology (e.g. manufacturing and agriculture), but others do not (e.g. healthcare, education). Those other industries become more e

All kinds of binary data might have a NUL byte. E.g. if you want to write a NUL byte to a file in the shell, you might try something like echo -n $'\0' > nul This doesn't work for the reason stated in the article.

Taxing externalities is great, and we should totally do that. However, your ordinary political vote as 1 of 300,000,000 Americans is probably less impactful than your job as 1 of 100,000 Googlers. And you still get to vote regardless of you
