I used make as a task runner for probably 30 years; using all the tricks to do most of the things you want in that use case (arguments, help, portability, reliability..). I worked around all the idiosyncracies continually. That's enoug

Mine uses hledger-web, with her own journal file on her laptop. I have installed a bash script that she can find/run from Spotlight Search, or double-click on if she opens the folder, which starts up hledger-web, which in turns opens a
