I agree, and I'm not advocating that everyone should always have a date on every piece of content they produce. Rather, one should think rationally about whether or not a specific piece of content will age well or not, and date it appropria

It looks very nice. One small UI request, you should only be able to edit one existing item at a time, so if you are currently editing one item and you double click another item, the first should be committed.

At least you have a date on your article. Half the articles I find have no date, and so then you're left wondering, 'exactly how out-of-date is the information I just found?'

Wow, that sounds like a bummer. I'm really sorry to hear that. May the future hold better luck for you.

I'm curious which sections of craigslist you look through. Web / Info design? Software / qa / db? Internet engineers?

Transitions are pretty jerky for me, but really great idea. Thanks for open sourcing the code, I'm excited to see where this goes!

One little thing, in the Design tab on the left it looks like all the closed arrows are open and the one open section is a closed arrow. (All the closed ones are pointing down and the open one is pointing right). Safari 5 on Snow Leopard.

Yeah, but there's something pretty compelling about having the video start playing as soon as you start typing. I agree with a comment in the previous thread that all the other implementation needs is a 'next video' button or key combo.

This actually raises the point that YC acts like the "first-mover" that pg talks about in the essay.

I think the worry was actually, "Isn't my data backed up somewhere even if you delete it the instant I tell you to? So then you still have my data?"

I'm not sure, but the visual part of the videos looks a lot like visualizations I've seen in algorithms classes where the speed does represent the speed of the sort. So I'd guess that it does here as well. These are really great. As a music

I'd like to say congratulations to Vinay Deolalikar for getting to this point and putting the paper out there. As randomwalker and others have said, this appears to at least be a legitimate attempt. It must take some seriously thick skin to

I'm confused by why the python 2.x branch is still being actively developed with new features rather than just being maintained for bug fixes. What are the roadmaps and goals of the 2.x verses the 3.x branches?

I don't think those are completely valid counter examples. Sure you can fire any one of them up and start using them for the most basic task for which they're suited, but to really interact with them takes time and learning. Just an anecdot

My brother agreed to try it once school is out in a couple weeks. I think he's a pretty good candidate: computer savvy and uses a mac, is interested in what I do but has never tried to learn it before. I'll definitely take notes and pass th

I'm curious about this: Don't expect tons of code that you can actually merge . Is this a general open source phenomenon? Are there good ways of managing a project to encourage more high quality code submissions from users?

Another thing which I don't personally do, but which might be helpful is to come up with a list of HN regulars who often comment on stories you enjoy, and then check out their comment history (eg for pg: http://news.ycombinator.com/threads

To add a personal experience to what your saying, it's been taught in a fair amount of detail in two of my classes (at the University of Utah) and has been glossed over in a few others.

I recorded and produced an EP of original songs by my brother. They're mostly acoustic guitar and voice, although we throw in harmonies, electric guitar and bass, light percussion, and an accordian(!) as well. You can find it at www.lukewil
