You could try to somehow attach the generator directly to the pedals/crank, that way you won't lose energy to the chain and the bearings on the rear wheel. It's probably not a meaningful improvement if the bike is well-kept a

I read that as a small joke. Most comments are much higher contrast so that author must have seen that low contrast isn’t the norm. When referencing hacker news as “the orange site” I would definitely assume that kind of familiarity.

I had some luck with WebAuthn in Safari 13, but it didn't work everywhere, but Safari 14 does. It's in beta right now and it even supports WebAuthn with Google, Dropbox, Twitter.
