I totally get what you mean, and I feel kind of the same but in reverse: When I was young, I was totally making systems like this legacy dumpster thermal experience. A lot of this stuff is hacked together by young aspiring programmers just

The Rust compiler statically links everything into a single binary. This can be changed, but is generally discouraged as there are no ABI stability guarantees at this point.

It is at least pretty interesting that the end result of repressive censorship and "free" market capitalism seems to be the same: limitations on what you can see or hear. To the average human, it doesn't really matter if it i

You are right that cyclic mutable graphs are very hard to model in Rust. But very little code actually looks like that in reality. A lot of code looks like that by accident.

It sounds more like a bug in SDL_TTF than a deliberate attempt to not break the line on Chinese punctuation marks. I wonder if SDL_TTF works with Unicode Zero-Width Space (U+200B). If so, that would probably be the right choice.

> If we need to switch out who's in the role? Its a lot easier when there's no official title, no extra prestige, no pay raise, nothing but the burden of leadership actually felt as a burden. No, it's harder. If nobody is

And far more often than we like to admit, making a decision is more important than making the best decision. And when wrong decisions are being made too often, formal structure helps to hold leaders accountable for their decisions.

The German Autobahn is infamous in Denmark for this feature. We're spoiled with much longer acceleration/deceleration lanes (with few exceptions). Still, it's a good rule of thumb to follow when possible.

It is hopefully obvious to everyone that a plant does not suffer in the same way that a cow does. Add to this that many plants actually rely on being consumed for reproduction. Sure, our sewage systems prevents it from actually working, but

So it is absolutely and obviously not true that generational terms like 'millenial' and 'Gen-X' only apply to the USA, because the same characteristics apply (and are used) in all of Europe, most of Asia, Australia, New

Most people who have the means to do so probably would. However, the killing in itself is very difficult to defend at all, in my opinion. You very quickly run into some sketchy philosophical dead-ends, such as for example the notion that hu

Most vegetarians have no trouble swatting a fly or a mosquito, though. The studies of plant "neurology" (if you can call it that) are all very interesting, but the argument that anything that has a nervous system is holy and untou

Lots of things that people do don't work after `fork()`, though, to the point where `fork()` has become largely irrelevant in new code. For example, threads are not generally compatible. You can also easily run into issues with open fi

CMake replaces `configure` scripts. It would be difficult to imagine what multi-architecture support in a single build directory / command-line invocation would look like. Instead, what we do is to wrap calls to CMake in a script that

At what point does it become fair to describe literal imitations of the developments that led to the rise of Nazi Germany as such? Such comparisons should not be made lightly, but when how far do we have to go in that direction before "

Linux doesn't seem to be the bottleneck for neither performance nor stability in a lot of contemporary systems, though, particularly not if we're comparing against a new, hypothetical operating system.

I mean you are right that in absence of a judicial system and the monopoly on violence exercised by nation states and supranational treaties, a conflict such as this could have been violent. Thankfully that world is far away.

Just a nitpick: Classical music from 200 years ago is definitely not "early music" by any cultural tradition. Western music 200 years ago was a highly developed art form, and this is even more true for other classical traditions t

So the thing you might be missing is that even when you think you're being appreciated for your intelligence, people have still been assuming that you are both white and male (and on IRC back in the day, probably a teen or young adult)
