Yes and no. (Hmmm, sound like a Tolkien elf there.) The opportunities have never been greater today and the barriers to entry have never been lower or cheaper. There are books and websites galore. If that doesn't help, there are forums and

Ok, I'll be the guy who says that he likes the previous version. :-) I don't dislike the new look, but it's not a dramatic departure. And I fail to see the problem that the new look solves. The red bar doesn't bother me, but is there a reas

Please report back because I'd love for some competition for the Gimp. The Gimp is great, but image editing editing software is an area that Linux is far too low on. And the $99 tag is low enough that I would be willing to pay for it.

Granted it's a press release and at this point it's all described as the greatest thing since sliced-bread and I have no idea whether any of that is true, but what is interesting is that they felt that there was enough of a Linux market t

While you're enjoying this classic article (and I do re-read it every time it's posted), you may wish to also take in Tim Bray's - in my opinion equally classic - article about Unicode. http://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/200x/2003/04/06/U

I use Pandoc and find it very helpful. I create my sermons in Pandoc's extended Markdown format and then side-load them to my Nook. Sometimes it is good to be the geekiest pastor around. I have also found that Pandoc is still being active

I like it, but I'm a minimalist kind of guy in my reading (formatting) preferences anyway. Is there an option for selecting sites? I didn't see one.

True. I was painting with somewhat of a broad brush there. Although, you could say that hermits are just extreme members of the type B personality, and that they need far fewer people than others. I'm not sure that even the most die-hard of

Wonderful thought and worthwhile effort. And I see that Facebook is also making similar efforts. I'm glad to see that. My meta-thought about this is how do you make this proactive instead of passive? If you don't visit raganwald or Facebook

All very true. People need contact with people. I am a geek and a type B (very happy with my own company) personality type like many others around here I'm sure. I am also a pastor and that's a people business. Some of the best advice I eve

A nice idea. Some folks may be nervous about expressing ideas without an NDA involved, but do we want their ideas anyway? :-) The design looked nice, but it was not intuitively obvious how to get back from an idea to the main screen.

As opposed to the brainwashing that happens all of the rest of the time? As a pastor I despair of making enough of an impact in an hour or two to overcome all the influence of school and work that people experience for many tens of hours ea

Very quickly in my case. At the church that I pastor, it is still small enough that I am the principle sound engineer as well, so I get to hear my recorded sermons before uploading them. This cured the use of stop words and also is removing

Agreed. When preaching sermons (which are all recorded) I soon learned that a short pause was better than a stop word. And as long as you don't look or sound panicked when you pause, it comes across as being thoughtful and people accept it

It's worse than that even. In much of Corporate America you are whatever keywords the HR person has been told to look for! Language, framework, operating system ... it's all the same to HR.
