No they don't. JS running on a modern engine like V8 are easily 10x faster than CPython which PyQt uses. If you think Python and JS are about the same speed then it is because of Qt itself, but certainly not because of CPython.

Those possibilities are the reason why I started my terminal project, Extraterm. You can get an idea of its unique features here: http://extraterm.org/features.html . The advantage that Electron has over the alternatives is

alas, there have been many attempts over the years for language bindings even to interesting targets like the JVM and mono/.Net, but none of them really gained "escape velocity", except for PyQt (which is great might I add).

Actually it makes a lot of sense. For an electron based browser the vast bulk of it is in the HTML/CSS/JS engine just like normal, but instead of doing the higher level code and UI chrome in C++, you just use the same language and

The problem is that your language choice is very limited. You can choose C++, no thanks, or Python which is very slow. There are no good options for languages or VMs on Qt in the Java/C#/VM/Jit range of the language performan

The vast majority of current web development project don't need to go anywhere near the bleeding edge "still in development" browser APIs. Your argument makes no sense in the year 2018.

You just dropped that comment about UX in at the end, but I think I know what you're hinting at. What I see from UX/UI people is that consistency means an app has the same look and feel across OS platforms and the web, and it matc

Web technologies have some unique non-technical qualities which trump the technical arguments: * Standards based with no single entity or company "owning" it. * Multiple mature competing implementations. * Massive support across t

Just a side note, but if you are building a commercial/serious product then your language options for Qt shrink down to just C++ and Python. Qt doesn't have many mature and maintained bindings to other languages.

To be honest the parents of the baby boomers would have been old enough to suffer through and fight the war, but wars tend to be started by the older generation who hold the political power.

Marijn, I'm big fan and user of CodeMirror. I make extensive use (and arguably abuse) of it in my side project. Thanks for building ProseMirror. One thing, how does ProseMirror work roughly? Does it avoid the `contentEditable` minefiel

and why would your experience of one terminal app based on Electron apply to all other terminal apps based on Electron? You even say that you don't notice latency in VSCode. A text editor and a terminal have similar problems to solve.

When it comes to Linux machines and servers, it has been a long time since I've seen one that didn't have some form of Python already installed on it by default. I don't think I can say the same for nodejs.

True, the classic shell tools like the pipe can do a lot of this. But there are important differences. Firstly, to use the pipe you need to know in advance which output you want to keep/capture when you run the command. (e.g. by redire

The point in these examples is that it is often very useful to be able to reuse the previous output to craft another command, or to work in a more iterative way by massaging the text and getting feedback along the way.
