I'm passively interested in small, local LLM OCR, due to couple ideas kicking around between my ears. Tried some a while ago, but most of my recent knowledge is second-hand. Waiting for someone to exclaim "hey this works now!"

I'm curious, how does it do with non-english texts? It's my understanding that LLM-based OCR solutions fall way behind traditional ones once you introduce other languages.

Isn't that what "direct feedback" means? I firmly believe you should be able to hit your fingers with a hammer, and in the process learn whether that's a good idea or not :)

Aranet runs on e-ink, with silly low energy refresh rate. The two (or was it one? ages since I last checked) AA batteries last me well over two years. As for vendor lock-in, the basic readings get broadcast over bluetooth advertisments, and

I have the good fortune of working in an office, with easy access to never-ending physical labour options courtesy of relatives living in the countryside. Every now and then the issues of IT projects make me say "screw it all, I'm

While the monetary overhead of an office is a fact, that couch also built their show. The in-person dynamics of both the podcast and their other shows were a class above the remote-only version that was forced by the east/west split, a

But is "I asked chatgpt" assigning any authority to it? I use precisely that sentence as a shorthand for "I didn't know, looked it up in the most convenient way, and it sounded plausible enough to pass on".

I often do this - ask a LLM for an answer when I already have it from an expert. I do it to evaluate the ability of the LLM. Usually not in the presence of said expert tho.

I owe my developer career to my mother giving me her old laptop sometime in late 90s. With the condition that if I break it, I fix it. Helped me through the process of installing Windows 3.11 for the first time, and then I was largely on my

If there is a procedure in place, you follow the procedure. You can argue how the procedure is ass backwards, but you don't just ignore the procedure because it's giving you bad vibes. Especially with PII. Every junior I've m

Not sure about color change, but dimming works fine - I have Shelly Dimmer2 modules behind switches, paired with "dumb" dimmable bulbs. Remotely controlled by HA / Adaptive Lighting, while also working with physical switch.
