Highlights the benefit of using a common framework for your service infrastructure. If I see another pointless node app for some backend service that isn't even high concurrency just cause the dev wanted to play with a new language..

It looks like you're using SHA1 as your hash algorithm which isn't a great choice for sharding. Look into using a consistent hashring algorithm. Basically you want to minimize the number of keys you need to redistribute if you

We should pay for digital IP the same way we pay for any other public good. Everyone puts a little in, maybe those with more contribute more, and then you allow everyone to benefit from the good because it can be given to everyone at litt

Man, I had an idea to do something like but with more of a privacy angle as a browser plugin (i.e all your social network data would be 'encrypted' and only visible to people you designate ). Now I realize it could have worked if I applied

What would be a good way of reliably farming out docker daemons to worker nodes? Mesos is a bit heavyweight but a docker-mesos framework could be pretty cool for programmatically scaling up or down dockers across worker nodes.

Anyone know of a good tool to make these types of diagrams? Preferably automatically? I've been meaning to create something that plugs into Chef and or nmap/netstat. In my experience, any diagram/inventory/whatever that isn't automatical

For a similar but non LXC version of the same idea check out http://www.pgbovine.net/cde.html Basically it records all the dependencies an application touches while running and creates an environment you can tar up and use on basically an

I work for a company that invests heavily into drupal and I'd highly recommend jekyll. Way better solution to almost all CMS use-cases. Sure some content producers might initially balk at actually having to actually check in their change

'The Best' are expensive and are constantly being poached. You don't need 'The Best' because you're not doing anything particularly innovative - you want "the most effective' which is probably someone 'good' who, with the right resources,

Chef and Fabric can play nice together. Use chef to configure the system but use fabric to manage them. Chef isn't fantastic at operational activities, especially those that need to be coordinated with a couple of nodes. Check out Pyche

Vagrant just allows you to automate setting up virtualbox and running chef inside a vm. You can do the same pretty trivially yourself but why bother when vagrant works. Where vagrant kinda sucks is when you're using libraries + 'smart' ID
