I mean this earnestly (no snark): what could it have been instead of T3X that would make you care?

The author is unknown to me (and I am nobody!). FWIW, I just bought the book and quickly read through the chapter on bootstrapping. IMHO, it is really well written.

Yes, I know that about executables, but I guess compiler-related subtleties are lost on me. I will clearly benefit from reading the book I just bought.

Looks cool, but what is FreeBSD-specific about it? Shouldn't a compiler just be reading and writing files?

What exception(s) might happen in this context? It should be possible to examine the disassembly (or the code) of the relevant exception handler(s).

I went over the article a couple of times, but I cannot quite tell what the actual memmove bug is. Does this assert(ptr == array + 1) imply that the buggy memmove returns the wrong pointer?

Any large piece of software will have its own terminology (car, cdr, frame, window, buffer, yank, kill, meta, ...). It is a shame that people would rather fixate on these superficial things instead of the minimal effort to get familiarized

Emacs shell-mode does the first one. The other two should be trivial for someone moderately proficient in elisp.

Exactly. IMHO, this is quite similar to Python indentation rules, except it is up to writers of Lisp code to be disciplined enough to maintain the proper indentation.

Almost all Lisp code will put the closing parens all together at the end. And the idea is to not care about how many there are by using an editor that provides the appropriate assistance.

Is there more information on this? Perhaps a mailing list thread or a Git commit?

I'm not seeking a flame war, but what Emacs shenanigans were those? I mostly use Emacs, so I am just curious. Thanks!

Does prominent compiler literature use the term "transpiler"?

I would suggest reading the first couple of pages of any compiler book. e.g. https://books.google.com/books?id=_tgh4bgQ6PAC&printsec=fron... Compilers are computer programs that translate a program written in one langu

Why is "IoT" even a separate thing? What is fundamentally different about small computers vs large computers when it comes to getting them on the Internet?

The golang project says "send PGP encrypted email if you like" right here https://golang.org/security Why should people be ridiculed for sending PGP encrypted email then?

It does not make me feel any better or worse either way. I am merely curious about Apple's motivations for publishing xnu and other Darwin code.

Why does Apple continue to publish Darwin code then? I have always been curious.

C does have a bool type as well. I have not seen it used much in the C code that I have encountered. See http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/basedefs/stdb...

What is the largest Python 2 codebase you can point at which has gone Python 3?

There will be many Python 2 production codebases that will forever remain at Python 2. Whether Python 3 is a new language or not will not make a difference.

I used to play Coursera lectures while driving to work. The various Algorithms courses were my favorite and for the most part, were surprisingly easy to follow just by listening.
