I like the idea and I think it is relevant to Hacker News - but is there an article that explains what this means?

IMO, those kind of things would cause me to leave the site. Unless it truly offered something amazing, it wouldn't be worth the effort for me Of course, I may not be the target demographic, just my 2 cents I don't have anything else to add

I suspect such requirements will be gamed with fake email accounts, which are then abandonded Much better to do Knighthood on facebook style pyramid schemes: bring in people and you get stronger.

Agreed, I think the poster may have meant well (hacked feed) but in this case the word "hack" doesn't really describe what the article is about. The story here is about outrage and perhaps some shock/humor of the situation, which is not wh

This title is not meant to be sensational, I think this is actually a serious problem if they are using their position as the dominant search engine to force themselves into being a dominant stats package. FTA: Browsers do not include that

Me too - I suspect it does though. I hate to admit it, but there's definitely a part of me that likes to see call us now 1-800.... on the top right of online stores when I'm browsing. Or how newegg has a contact page that lists a phone nu

Ok, I admit it - I almost upvoted just based on the title. But I restrained myself, and have discovered it actually links to a decent article What's especially amazing to me though is how hungry we are for a competitor - an empty website, e

Cool! I installed it, and selected the option - and nothing happens. I still see 30 items at the bottom Can you tell me the exact URL that I should be seeing it at? I see toolkit. When I use that I see the search YC buttons etc, but when I

I disagree here Shamiq, from my experience that's not entirely accurate. Typically 4-5 votes makes front page - though yo uare correct, often 2-3 votes is sufficient. Sometimes 2 votes will, but not always - it's more a function (I believe)

That shows you every article that makes the front page, it does not show you articles that people have just submitted. An RSS feed for all submissions might be nice, but refreshing the new page every 30 minutes or so is also sufficient.

Now that I think about it, I am pretty sure something like this is possible with some greasemonkey/iframe magic Still not a perfect solution as not everyone will install it - but a decent start eh?

I think it depends, but I have no problem with self submission (disclaimer - I've submitted 2 articles myself from my site in the past 6 months, one today). I would prefer others submit them, but until the community is large enough and my s

You know, I had a thought about this - why not make it an option to show me the 5 most recent new submissions on the bottom of the index page (e.g., the top 25 plus 5 latest). It's not a perfect solution, but at least I'll be aware it's th

I see so much other stuff make the front page that I am not interested in, but I am interested in seeing YC Companies succeed. For better or worse at TC write up is still probably the best way to reach people who keep up with startup/entre

Agreed, I love RescueTime You just have to be careful that you tag things correctly and are honest about it. The default tags and categories are pretty good, but you have to decide for yourself if hacker news is really that productive ;)
