Because that paradigm is currently restricted to rich people in first-world countries where always-on fast internet is ubiquitous and you can sync everything to the cloud without much trouble. The rest of us will continue using not-very-hig

I also want it to continue the non-conflicting files while I'm deciding. Windows 7 does it, so I imagine it wouldn't regress in Windows 8.

The tacit assumption you're making is that all wishes should command equal respect. They shouldn't. If the wishes of a creator include his creation not being available to buy where I live, well then, fuck his wishes.

Because I don't use Firefox. Well, then, given that it solves a problem you have, maybe you should reconsider that. I get your general point, but your vision seems to require being locked into one vendor, and I certainly don't want that,

Will iCloud be an open protocol? Will I have access to it on my Android phone? Firefox Sync is an open protocol -- there's nothing stopping somebody from writing a Chrome extension implementing it.

I don't see why you need to wait, though. The time it takes to set everything up is O(number of devices * number of services), both of which are pretty small, and the benefits you get are O(time you use the device), which is pretty large. i

I personally think being liberal in what you accept from others is the second worst evil in computer science. The worst being null, of course.

Secure URLs can show a lock icon in the tab. Careful, careful. Most browsers have gotten rid of the lock icon for SSL-enabled sites because it simply isn't accurate.

> Many people consider anything that appears in a browser window to be "the web"; if you want to convince us otherwise, at least give a reason. Surely you're more informed than the "many people" you refer to?

Nah, it's a bad design decision. I've written more about it at http://monogatari.doukut.su/2010/12/lightweight-javascript-d... Python does it right, though.

Don't forget on a Mac you're much less often moving your mouse to the top right corner (window closing is on the top left of a window. I move the mouse to the top right whenever I want to just get it out of the way. May be worth turning

Hot corners seem like a terrible idea, simply because they're far too easy to acquire (by Fitts' Law). I don't want Expose or whatever to show up every single time I move my mouse to the top right corner, which is often accidentally.

Plus every terminal (including on Mac) and every other OS uses Enter to execute a command or program. Edit: wow, downvoted for expressing a fact. Stay classy.

Who cares if you don't like their TOS? That is an unsatisfying way to look at it. I think a better way to look at it is "it's public knowledge, therefore the public has the freedom to complain about it and hope that Google will listen."

No, the search box is still there, and I'm pretty sure the solution to that won't be what Chrome does. I remember hearing something about the address bar becoming a little modal.

This site should be renamed Apple Fanboy News, that's why. I'm tired of these worthless submissions. There are lots of things I like about my OS, but I'm not insecure enough to need to justify any love I might have by telling everybody on H
