What are the clever, resourceful, and truly evil recruiters doing? I guess the amateur ones can filter by universities and organizations, but surely there's a more efficient way to wade through the swamp of linkedin?

Makes sense. If they drive £25,000, then that would compel them to build the product at a quicker pace. Otherwise, maybe there's not enough desire for it. And so they won't bother upping the pace.

But for simple issues, is it necessary for Mark or Dave to go through the tickets themselves? The examples you gave didn't have to be personally closed by Mark. If people are willing to contribute, wouldn't they also be willing to help you

Hey, makes sense. What @jashkenas has is a centralized place where tickets are filed, instead of submitting issues, tasks, code to other maintainers, who then merge those into jashkena's work. Eventually everything trickles into jashkena's

It's pretty rad. That's an effectively big botnet. I wonder if it's possible to have a breakdown of residential vs enterprise for the boxes he's connected to. Maybe a sample of the local subnet? Or doing port scanning on the internal networ

Your description makes a lot of sense, though. Most regular users know how Dropbox works, right? So way easier to relate. Cool stuff.

Nice conservative review of Google Fiber. Is hosting off of Google Fiber off-limits? This would be great for people who drive medium amounts of traffic but don't want to pay for hosting. Back up the server, maybe use a CDN for faraway place

Awesome slider. Works nicely on Dolphin and Browser. How does this compare with DragDealer? http://code.ovidiu.ch/dragdealer/ Yours looks smoother, but it's too close to tell.

What about an easy way to redistribute customized versions of Firefox? What im thinking about is something like a software pack or plugin bundles, similar to ninite. Very much like the spf-13 vim distribution. Or like some of the bundled ec

There's probably a boxen script for getting a lamp stack up and running on a lot of linux boxes: https://github.com/boxen/our-boxen It'll save you a lot of the configuration problems initially, until you're ready to configure.

How does this work for proprietary software, or stuff that requires installation keys or authorization? Say Office 2011 or sublime text 2 or some other paid app (whether in the app store or not)?

Or just gloves instead of implants. So you can take them off, but still get the benefit when they're on. I don't see why it isn't possible.

What's preventing non-technical employees from jumping aboard on IRC? There's a web client and desktop clients are fairly simple to set up. The big advantage I see to IRC is how long it's been around. Plenty of clients and setups catering t

The finance team at appnexus use ipython internally to scrape files, create aggregates, etc. I dunno, it's just about teaching them about it at the right level. Don't swamp them with thousands of details, and don't leave them without a life

Autoconnecting to an open wireless network and then to a VPN afterwards would circumvent that problem. It'd be nice and convenient.

But there's an astounding lack of mathematical rigor in software. It may all call crumbling down like a house of cards. And it does. People don't know theory, nor do they want to learn it. They just want to get work done. Although all theor
