I was reacting to your original post which implied that speculative concerns have marred EA the movement by pointing out that EA the movement has had close ties to speculative concerns since the beginning. It's a large, complex group w

No, Oxford is incidental to the story. The term was used to mean roughly those ideas at least half a decade before CEA was founded. Some history is here: https://jacyanthis.com/some-early-history-of-effective-altru...

iPhone was speculated about as an Apple product for years by the media before it came out. Newsweek even did a cover story about it. Also, the initial launch of iPhone didn’t support apps or Flash (i.e. no porno videos on the web!), and the

This is not true. Large Indian cities have some of the worst planing/zoning/building codes in Asia. Mumbai's FSI (Floor Space Index) is so bad it's almost a meme.

There are plenty of unions that keep supply low. Nearly every labor union in California, for example, has underfunded apprenticeship programs for exactly this reason. I’m surprised you aren’t aware this is a phenomenon. Unions answer to the

Unions have a range of outcomes for business success. Yes, some may hold management accountable and ultimately help companies; others screw over everyone besides long tenured employees. Suppose Stripe was unionized and somehow the union had

This may be the case, but your link doesn't really prove the point. SFPD is certainly not over-staffed, with half the per capita police force of most major cities. Per capita statistics in San Francisco also need to be adjusted because
