As has been pointed out: this matters to you if you subscribe to MySQL support. The vast majority of MySQL users who just run the DB on their servers have nothing to worry about.

Primarily, that the original article is presented as a report on a scientific survey, the subjects are called "scientists" (which they may well be) and yet for the fundamental question of "how many people believe in the paranormal" we're fa

And who doesn't like a dick joke about the feds? That's the point here, right - it's just a dick joke?

What's not clear from the project page is what I can do to mock the host application - since Lua is primarily an embedded language, it doesn't help to have setup, teardown and asserts if I can't say "and this host-function should return (X)

There was a period in time where I needed to do the same thing for sports coverage - long story, but there's something amazingly gratifying about ingesting huge quantities of data from semi-public sources in a time-critical way.

"There is no hard data on how common it is to believe in the paranormal ... But trends in television programming offer a sense that there is a widespread interest in mystical phenomena that is becoming more common." This is journalism?

"Really? I think that is one of its strongest points. being able to switch branches by just going 'git checkout <branch>' and immediately having the entire file structure switched out to what's 'contained' in the new branch was a bi

It may have improved a lot recently, but the one project I was using Darcs on had this workflow: 1. Pull revisions 2. Discover local workspace was corrupted. 3. Delete local workspace and restart. I'm not a fan of Darcs either. :)

A big problem with git is that the commits-and-branching model is poorly thought through. It's very easy to find yourself on no branch at all, for instance, or for a developer to believe they've committed work to a shared branch when in fa

I'm really tired of Git standing in for "DVCS" - there are so many better options. Bazaar, Mecurial, Monotone, Fossil - check those out. The only win I see in git is the adoption rate. Which doesn't seem like a real win, just populist sh

My experience (Chrome on Linux) was smooth in both technologies (apart from a collision detection bug on the canvas side). Really neat demo though - when they're synced, it's weird to be aware that there's a sort of slight of hand happenin

Best comment: "Overall, the paper isn't fantastic. There are some additional experiments and better controls that might have made for a more convincing case." It's so nice not to see science journalism gushing about their misunderstanding

I'm a big fan of Capybara, but not so much of Cucumber, so this looks really awesome. The basic RackTest driver is so much faster than Selenium - if only env.js could play nicely with V8 and jQuery.

I'd actual advise you to "Think in Lisp" while learning Javascript - I'd just read "The Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs" when I started getting deeper in the JS, and it made a world of difference. The Javascript type syst

I've had serious reservations about content from w3schools, to the point where I now skip them entirely when they come up in a Google search. They seem like a collection of all the bathroom-wall code ever: MySQL or SQLServer specific code
