the franchisee has a profit motive too. If adding a charging station brings in more revenue - I don't see why the franchisee would refuse. Also, factor in that charging times are longer for EV. This means they'll spend more money

Honestly, I think the more important takeaway isn’t the decline of NoSQL. As the article says, it’s the conclusion that’s what’s good for FAANG isn’t necessarily what’s good for your average project. I know this sounds obvious but it’s been

I see these experiences as nice-to haves. It just means you'll be able to hit the ground faster. Personally, I'd value someone who shows they can learn quickly. That said, it's trivial these days to spin up a few VM's, i

this post is so timely. How do you guys handle hiring? I’m looking to hire more data engineers (Singapore only for now), especially senior ones and it’s not easy. My gut is to just find good engineers who have good first principles and let

the article talks about a setting to lock down a child’s ability to charge the credit card on file. Anyone else wondering why this ‘setting’ is opt-in instead of opt-out?

I was talking to a friend the other day about the backlash against Clippy in Office. Reading these release notes, can't help wonder if IDE's will soon need an equivalent. Something like -> "Hey! it looks like your function

Figma does, and they cut their load time down by 3x. As a frequent user, I can attest to how snappy it feels despite the heavy computations it needs to do in the background. Evan Wallace, their CTO did a great write up on it [1]. [1] https

Obesity is an external cost that just doesn't get accounted for in a free market. So far, regulation is a blunt tool, but still a lot more effective than other tools we have to deal with this. For instance, in Indonesia, it's comm

my favourite feature is how the title bar icon in any app that’s editing a file (textmate/ word etc) is a pointer to the actual file unlike windows. - you can drag that file anywhere to move it. - CMD click it to see a breadcrumb menu

exactly, this makes absolutely no sense for a small business. Managed DO / GKE is a much better idea, maintaining K8's is the last thing a small business should focus on.

thanks! I'll try this - one of my pet peeves with Xo is handling nullable types and more advanced types like JSONB required editing the generated code significantly to make it work. Hopefully sqlc solves that.

Looks a little like the Typescript equivalent of Xo ( https://github.com/xo/xo ) for Go. Especially with Go, getting help with some initial scaffolding can be a huge timesaver. I'm assuming it's a similar gain

This is great - any word on supporting internal IP load balancers on Kubernetes? From what I've read, unlike GKE, AKS etc, all kubernetes services exposed via load balancer gets a public IP. I'd like to keep internal services lock

This is really cool - our dashboard uses Vue for the frontend and a Go backend. Everytime I deploy, I think about how insanely slow the frontend 'compilation' + unit tests step is compared to testing and building the Go code. It&#

A major use case this articles misses is having to manipulate files on a remote server. When you’re SSH’ing into your server, VIM is incredibly efficient to make quick edits.

On closer inspection, it doesn't look like it's a viable alternative. My biggest gripe with Alpine is that it uses musl instead of glibc. Most python C based dependencies require glibc to build. Looks like Kiss uses musl too. Alpi

If you know what you're doing (important qualifier), I'd imagine cost is a huge factor too. RDS is pretty often a significant % of your AWS bill - how valuable this is, entirely depends on how confident you are doing it yourself.

I'm surprised to find no mention of MJML on this thread - it's more of a developer tool than a user facing one. You get to design your emails using a simplified markup language that resembles HTML, and it converts it into minified
