There were some financial giants that used Symbolics for fraud detection; possibly it just makes sense to keep it running than to rewrite it. I remember American Express being a large customer, from what I read.

Kermit is interesting also, though my understanding was that it was not quite as good as taking advantage of higher available data rates; am I wrong about that?

A friend who works in embedded systems pointed out that XMODEM protocol communication is used everywhere in embedded; it may be that the protocol is more widely shipped now than it has been in the past! Many Cisco, Adtran, Juniper etc switc

The saying that “A level management hires A’s , while B’s hire C’s” is true and directly ties into this. The arrogant-yet-incompetent management I have encountered actually makes it difficult for high performers since the mental “box” they

However the older solders have a much higher percentage of lead in their composition which makes whiskering less likely. I have two Zenith Z-120s made in about 1980 and thus coming up on 50 years old which don’t have any issues.

Both tea leaves and California rice have fluoride also; absorbed by the plants as they grow. Foreign sources of rice have to pass tests for fluoride while California rice is exempt, from my understanding.
