You can't really avoid this in a company with global presence. Forget the whole "remote" thing. If your company has an office in SF and one in Tokyo, people in the two offices will have to sync sometimes. That's a fact.

This is preposterous. Judges are acting predictably in making critical decisions about people's lives. Instead of trying to fix the bias/predictability problem, France moves to censor data revealing said predictability. Edit: gram

I agree and this points to the problem of "high level, usable TOS/EULA". Today's EULA "culture" is so hopelessly broken. Whereas the software is interactive and intuitive, using readable labels and buttons, the

IMO Facebook is the real modern evil. Google is exhibiting the woes of a company that's become too big for its own good; it controls too much. However it continues to provide very high value services, especially to businesses. Facebook

Can you hook a miniaturized-enough version of this device to your exhaust pipe then and have a zero exhaust car that runs on water but is technically a gasoline car?

A trading bot is a money-making machine and so is Facebook. What's worse, a "headless" machine that is directly manipulating buy/sell orders to feed off market inefficiencies, or a machine that lures humans in, then conv

Yeah exactly. Many of these founders are on their 2nd startup and are already millionaires. Some poor nth employee is in fact risking a lot by e.g. quitting their nice life in a city by relocating, or quitting a promising career. Yet the fo

And there are a bunch of suckers who put in X% the work that each cofounder put in and are getting (X/1000)% of that 500M. It's because they assumed 1000x less risk presumably.

This seems a rather pedantic difference -- "let it be posted and remove it later" versus "reject it upon submission."

At the risk of coming off as snarky toward Alan Kay, whom I respect tremendously, I believe the Kay-official answer to the question "what is Kay oop?" is "you just don't get it." Which for me has always raised a fla

This is more and more of a myth, to the point where it rings outright false. Tons of people work remotely successfully and don't miss walking into an office building. Basic tooling and online presence suffice.

That's not true. Pretty much everything you own is "yours" subject to various machinery that can be tampered with by the parties who control it. Blockchain can make ownership records unequivocal.

We are talking about ownership, which of course doesn't matter in your example because you don't own the buses or the stations. If you own a house, where's the record? The title is with an insurance company. Why? Because your

I can see the analogy: in the early days Facebook was invite only and at some point a lot of people were curious and wanted to get in. Now we want it to stop spilling out onto us.

This will be awesome for vim-ers. Imagine the keyboard symbols change to display the actions you can do in command mode. When you press "d" in command mode, the relevant keys light up to indicate the type of object you can delete.

Honest question: does webassembly do anything about speeding up the Dom API? For example low-latency text input is non-existent in any browser engine today (short of rendering text using webgl). Does wasm do anything about this?

Ok I should have been more precise. By "left join tuples" I intended to mean the "left join - inner join" tuples. The point is you can use sets and Venn diagrams to talk about joins.

A cross join is the union of 3 mutually exclusive sets: the left join tuples, the inner join tuples, and the right join tuples. Is this not the case? So then you can use Venn diagrams just fine.
