It looks like a great service but at that pricing it almost exactly doubles my hosting cost. I can get "good enough" with cacti, nagios and pingdom. I can see expensive plans for enterprises moving to the cloud, but for small founders and I

I always thought people who were looking for unbiased news were actually look for news that matched their own bias. I know I read certain publications/sites because I am more likely to read an article that presents a series of facts couched

I use Linode for my primary site and prgmr as the backup. Both are excellent. Prgmr is not for newbies, you submit a public key with your order and get back a login to a XEN console. My hosts there seem to be fine, no problems yet.

The last three paragraphs gave me chills. If Google follows thru and exits China I really, really hope it will be the beginning of an exodus of those companies that support the Golden Shield Project. I'm looking at you Cisco - http://www.g

Your distinction is correct however the speed at which resistance can be developed can make the difference irrelevant. An individual (or the bacterium in an individual) can develop a resistance to a antibiotic in as little as two weeks . I

How could they possibly think that is a good idea? I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when they decided they needed a EULA and a users address before they would them look at a list of products.

On a personal note MRSA is a tough little bug. I got it in the hospital after I broke my ankle and had to get a bunch of screws and a plate installed. They ended up removing all of the hardware and keeping me in the hospital for ~ 90 days

IANAL. It's important to note that not everything in a contract/TOS/EULA is binding. The terms of any contract can be subject to litigation. If I sign a contract agreeing to sell you my kidney for $10,000 that clause of the contact will lik

The author makes a huge leap, "The core, implicit assumption behind Oracle RAC, IBM DB2, and many other database clustering solutions, is that failure can be avoided by purchasing high-end disk storage and using expensive hardware (fiber o

I am amazed. Let's ignore the whole against the law aspect to this enterprise and look at the business. A bunch of things have to happen to make this work even once - 1) Advertise for "work at home" workers. 2) Acquire those workers, proces

From a practical POV I don't think you could ever, ever, ever get around the perceived privacy issue of using cell phones. (Maybe even a real concern.) As to the using the bus data I have run some tests using the SF Muni dataset (nextbus.co

The traffic monitoring idea could work on its own. UPS & Fedex already tracks their trucks (I think). If you could buy access to that data you could publish detailed drive time info for a big part of the developed world. The data from F
