To tell something positive too: When I researched it last time, Inkscape was the only reasonable way to do programmatically edit arbitrary SVGs. Other tools always had some troubles with some weird edge-cases, Inkscape knew how to edit ever

Google Docs cannot even add custom styles. And if you open word file with custom styles, it just… removes all of them.

Well... in 2022, if you want the "iPod Touch experience", just with better chip - just buy iPhone SE 3 and don't put SIM in. It's basically the same form factor, can do the same things, just with better chip by 5 generat

I used to work with Singaporean government on a project (which I cannot legally share more about), and, they are actually as dysfunctional technically-wise as any other government. The dynamics that make government technically dysfunctional

Money don’t grow on trees. If there was a magic way to make money without work, everyone would be doing it.

Ah, I wondered when exactly Netflix original content changed to "mountain of trash". The article pinpoints it quite well.

Well, that's because goroutines and channels are something, that's first class in go and has a special syntax. While in Java, it tries to mostly keep the existing Java syntax. I guess people that write Java are used to a lot of &q

I am now using standard ES6 without Babel. I kind of know what `class`, `new` and `extends` does, I never know what `__proto__` and `prototype` does without googling it and staring at the code for a long time. So maybe I am wrong the whole

It might be that. As I use Java-like classes everywhere; and the moment they were possible in JS through Babel, I jumped on that too.

I think I will never understand Javascript prototype chain. People always say that it's actually simpler than "traditional", Java-like classes... yet when JS gained that, with ES6, I could immediately "grok" what `c

Docker is double slow on M1 mac compared to Intel linux. First, you run virtual machine vs just running natively on Linux. Second, you emulate x86; and, unlike other x86 that are emulated directly on M1, you emulate it in software through Q

password hash is not a general hash. general hashes are to be used in other crypto constructions. Or, if you really need just a quick hash (but really think if you really need it.) Password hashes are for passwords.

I have no idea what happened with Netflix. Their first few originals were great, or if not great, then at least interesting. Now, they produce so much , but most of it is just… feeling like made by AI Like they see what is popular elsewher

Once a project gets to feature parity with atlassian, it will become atlassian. Same with SAP. Once your ERP has same feature parity with SAP, it will become SAP. JIRA is SAP of engineering... yeah why I haven't thought of that before.
