I have seen Grab’s (Grab is SEA Uber) motorbikes showing ads on mounted tablets, and their car drivers have tablets in the car that showed ads. On top of that the app showed GrabFoods ads with “food at your end location”. And the Grab app i

More SaaS vs self-host. But. We used self-hosted Mattermost to “save money” on Slack. The loss in productivity was so big that it was definitely not worth the money saved. And the promised “it’s open source, if it misses a feature, we will

Hm. I don’t know. As a “generalist” myself, I find it sometimes hard to find a new job (as it’s hard to describe what exactly you did), but once I land a new job, I somehow become a person that just can’t be fired, and bring a lot of value

All of this, just to be a building block to some new MLM hype scam…

Commons in particular should get a big overhaul. And ideally a phone app. I don’t know how would it look like, but… why is it 100 times easier to upload photo of a place from phone to Google Maps than it is to Commons? (ironically, most poo

That happens if you donate to ANY cause, ever. If you give money to, I don’t know, a charity for hungry kids in <insert poor country>, they will send you MORE begging mails, not less.

Despite all the negative about wikipedia, it’s still sort of part of “old internet” that I don’t want to die. Even wikia, which was spun at first as “slightly more commercial wikipedia”, later became Fandom, which is something so horrible t

Ahh I somehow misread the post and thought it’s a generic map that uses hash table. I should get some sleep, thanks

ELI5. How is maphash different from just using map? I am surely missing something. I thought the builtin map used hashing too?

I do think that cryptocurrency is nonsense and should be banned, but let’s be honest. There wasn’t any cryptocurrency in OneCoin. They didn’t even literally have any cryptocurrency. It was all completely 100% MLM. That’s different from, say

Yeah I liked how honest he was! He was the one that had the talk IN THE METAVERSE, unlike Mark. He tries to push for the conference to be in metaverse. I literally lost confidence for the Meta experiment with his departure.

by shp0ngle 4y ago
His unscripted talks were amazing. Everytime I watched them I was thinking "ok, the official Meta announcements are corny, but there is still someone that still cares about what is the actual end result;" that's why I was sti

I don’t know if I will. I was a computer addicted kid since I was about 8, when parents bought me a computer in 1995. When faster internet came, in the late 1990s and early 2000s, I was on the internet nonstop. And later on social media - L

by shp0ngle 4y ago
Well gitea itself is a fork of a different project, because of some other founder drama (that I forgot honestly). So it’s fine.

Other fediverse servers can quickly block them from federating. Gab (the Nazi thing) and Truth Social (the Trump thing) are both based on Mastodon, but nobody wants to federate with them.

Not really. Desktop GNU/Linux is a horrible experience that you always need to debug. I sometimes miss Windows, not due to Windows itself (Windows 11 looks like a horror show), but because of all the apps, especially games.

I remember in the 90s, when they cloned Polly (or Molly? I don’t remember), people predicted crazy future where we keep cloning animals and one day maybe humans. I don’t hear much about cloning recently. What happened?

From the look of the PR, does this mean they ported LLVM to Serenity, so all languages that build to LLVM will work? Or am I way off the mark?
