What they failed to mention is what percent of that boost came from autofillers/spammers. They say they successfully used timestamp/honeypots to keep out spammers; if so, how many spammers did they keep out? If it was tons, then say so, tha

Do you have permission to use those stock exchange logos? Doing it that way makes it look like they're customers of yours, which is probably illegal without their permission.

That's not terribly common in the US. It's possible to buy VISA or AMEX gift cards in some stores, but the markup tends to be significant (10%+).

My understanding is that we can't rebuild a certain gel that's used in some older nuclear weapons, because we've lost all of the formulas, all of the production processes, and the handful of people who had both the scientific understanding

Interestingly, one thing we DID do that's observable from earth is to put an array of retroreflectors onto the moon, so that we can bounce a laser off of it. https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Lunar_Laser_R... My sample size o

This is a great infographic idea, but the census 'incorporated city' boundaries/populations is not that good of a data set for this use case. Metropolitan statistical areas would've been a more reasonable choice here, since in many cities t

They just pulled the top 50 cities from the census, Cleveland is 43, Pittsburgh is 61. https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/List_of_Unite... (Cities vs metro areas, oh the perils of using census data.)

The circles are scaled by population, and according to the census city boundaries they're measuring LA is 3.8MM compared to DC's 600K, which is a pretty dramatic difference, although it's just an artifact of which data they chose to use for

The issue isn't really the city scale then, it's the numbers for the avg house price: http://www.trulia.com/real_estate/San_Diego-California/marke... http://www.trulia.com/home_prices/California/San_Diego-heat_... breaks it down better

I believe that they're basing this data on stats collected by the census, so you have take the city as defined by the census bounds, which aren't necessarily similar to common conceptions of what area is 'in' a city.

IANAL, but my understanding is that this would give Amazon a 'retail presence' in most US states, thus requiring them to charge sales tax on online transactions.

In fairness, it's not all that uncommon for Starbucks to be full of people talking into thin air to no one (blue tooth cell phone headsets). The (theoretical) advantage of voice recognition is that you can speak _much_ faster than you can t

I'll (attempt to) draw a counter to that: A machine need not understand out brains 'native' language processing, just a trained 'output' version. There is already a crude toy out there that will 'read your mind' and raise or lower a ball ba

I think it depends a bit on what you mean by 'ubiquitous'. Eventually voice will probably supplant the keyboard for many written communications, and gestures for navigation (which is more about replacing the mouse anyway), but voice is actu

This is a random aside, but did anyone else notice that every single occurrence of "fi" on that page was doubled? Do a find in page for "fifi" and you'll see it everywhere. I'm assuming this was some kind of misbehaving filter, but I wonder
