I picked all AMD for my box specifically because of their open source Linux contributions. I have friends who have done the same.

IME, this is rarely true; hence “2hrs fixing docker build”. It’s really difficult to pin everything. Even if you manage that, upstream resources change/move.

If you forget about a PHP container for a few years it will /also/ have 40 new vulnerabilities. Actually, containers are worse because OS updates of core shared libraries do nothing. You have to rebuild every damn container. Setti

I think this article is rather lazy. People travel for all manner of different reasons. You might not, and that’s fine. Nobody needs to change anyone else’s mind. Neither are right or wrong.

UK bookies are evil. It’s rather easy to win money from them, but they are extremely good at spotting smart money and will immediately limit your account. If you have a long term account with a bookie, you are a loser. (in monetary terms. :

Family Marts have a shelf of individually packed socks/underwear/T-shirts/leggings etc in many styles and colours. Cheap and good quality too. Ran out of socks a few times when I was there. Top up was a 10s walk from the hote

Yeah but navigation requires internet. I drove through Death Valley and thought I was super smart by pre-downloading the whole area…

This is just idealism. In reality a C++ app is highly likely to use a C API somewhere. - Basically all Linux apis - the official Redis library - etc

Agreed. Opportunities like that are super rare though. Within the confines of an existing company it’s usually better to reuse established tech, for the sanity of your colleagues. :D

Most of the time it’s better to adapt existing code than light a match and start again. For example, I’ve seen and participated in the transition of a completely undocumented custom web framework (with an entirely Redis based ORM) to an ind

Greenfield projects are 1% of a SE job. IME “the code is crap, we need to start again” really means “I don’t want to (or worse, can’t) read source code that isn’t mine”. Reading and understanding someone else’s code then making and executin

Anyone got the 65B model to work with llama.cpp? 7B worked fine for me, but 30B and 65B just output garbage. (On Linux with a 5800X and 64GB of RAM)
