Reinvention of the wheel and tax on supporting "yet another thing" for developers who need to deal with it. Same reason standards have some value.

Thank you, it worked like a charm! Why does Toshiba have to make it so hard for Linux users if hdparm supports it?

I think the article which argues against re-reading doesn't deserve a longer comment.

Why is SDL API needed vs gfx-rs / wgpu though? I.e. was there a need to make yet another one?

Why are residential prices on electricity not falling if costs of energy production are shrinking? If anything, prices only go up and electricity companies especially raise them during hot season.

May be it can change if USB 4 will sneak in and supplant HDMI in those devices, since it can route both HDMI and DP.

HDMI forum is a corrupt cartel which sole existence is to make sure they can continue fleecing everyone on patent fees.

Better to use IPv6 in all examples. Time to get used to it instead of IPv4.

60 Hz display is a bad case to begin with. How visible it is let's say on 180 Hz one? Though ideally, may be display should use adaptive sync to the player rather than the player trying to hack around the video to display?

They must have patched it, upstream wget doesn't do it.

Switched to wcurl from my own alias. It's neat. curl doesn't pollute $HOME unlike wget.

When I was looking for an editor that supported true color themes, neovim supported them, vim didn't. That decided what I was going to use. Stability is good, but if you need a feature that's not there - stability isn't helpi

Vulkan in theory should be more flexible, but in practice VAAPI still has some advantages when it comes to power efficiency due to Vulkan path lacking some needed features (I think something to do with color space conversions which in Vulka

I do it like this: vo=gpu-next gpu-api=vulkan hwdec=vulkan gpu-context=waylandvk You can replace hwdec=vulkan with hwdec=vaapi if Vulkan video doesn't work.

Since ZLUDA was taken down (by request from AMD of all parties), it would be better to have some ZLUDA replacement as a general purpose way of breaking CUDA lock-in. I.e. something not tied to Nvidia hardware.

That depends. Shipping too much too fast without making the base that can handle it properly results in a ton of tech debt that will bite you in the end one way or another. So there must be some balance about it. The "we'll fix it
