Good, but if it's actually a standard - that's the benefit. If it's not - it's just NIH as in lock-in.

This comment is just a bunch of bunk, but regardless, Vulkan is the only thing that's a collaborative effort, whether it's a mess or not. NIH proponents have nothing to offer as an alternative.

Because it won't tax developers with the need to learn yet another NIH. Same reason any standard exists and makes things easier for those who use it. Honestly any idea that defends NIH like this belongs with dinosaurs. NIH is a stupid

That still doesn't make NIH a better approach. NIH is dinosaur idea really when it comes to technology like this.

I'd ask why wouldn't they. Not a fan of NIH and wheel reinvention proponents.

Competition law exists for a reason, and it doesn't matter how much Apple invested, it's not negating that reason. If anything, it's the opposite - the bigger Apple is, the worse is the damage they cause.

Mozilla should join it too, Apple banned Firefox in iOS for decades.

Home network describes it sufficiently, no need to reinvent the wheel for terms.

It's weird some major sites like Github still don't support IPv6. There is no excuse.

They abuse competition law being toothless for quite a long time already. Basically they got away with it because everyone let them.

Good, they shouldn't control (exclusively that is) it which is the whole point of antitrust issue here. Their freak control and browser engines ban is causing anti-competitive damage to the whole Web.

Apple should be also fined huge amount for banning competing browser engines on iOS and forced to remove the ban or continue being fined.

Neovim doesn't force you to use AI, unless you configure it yourself. If your editor doesn't allow you to switch it off, there must be a big problem with it.

Wine is translating Windows ABIs (not APIs) into underlying Linux OS and userland. Translation simply means that normally Windows ABIs are meant to be used on Windows, they aren't native on Linux.

Really weird and convoluted reasons for it. A better question is why it was never fixed / renamed to proper names.

I'm trying to replace jpeg with avif in my use cases, but some sites still don't handle avif. Even Github! Though the latter doesn't support IPv6 either.

I'd say it's the result of the use cases being so broad, that some get more focus than others. There were obviously pain points that only gradually got better. But it doesn't mean Wayland isn't suitable for addressing th

Aren't they addressing it with the unified UDNA architecture? That's going to be a thing in the future GPUs, making consumer and datacenter ones share the same arch. Different architectures was probably a big reason for the above

May be, but I've seen bug reports with a bunch of layouts and nothing looks standard there. Steam Deck OLED is such example, Lenovo laptops, LG UltreaGear OLEDs and etc. I don't really see any commonality. * https://bug
