Monopolization and patent evergreening. Monopolization is a natural tendency of markets, you should expect it often.

But CS students aren't really expected to pick these things up on the way - and they have other things to be doing if it's not required coursework. It's like an English major who can read and analyze the classics and nothing

To be honest, this comment section is full of blanket dismissals that speak to living in a bubble away from people with very real grievances. I would say it is not particularly philosophical or moral or factual - it is a reflection of perso

It's tough to know where to begin with something so obviously false and trivializing. What amount of violence would you need to experience before you would acknowledge victimization? There's plenty that goes around that you appare

This makes no sense at all. If you have been or are being victimized, recognizing it is the first step to taking an action to counter it. If someone steals from your car, nobody plays philosophical games about whether you were victimized an

The conflation tends to come from an angle that is either anti-semitic or Zionist and hyper-nationalist. Or was informed by one of those camps and picked it up by osmosis. I would guess this falls closer to the Zionist/hyper-national

No discussion whatsoever about people having actual grievances. Just the identification of a personality trait and then making it out to be a problem that actually hurts other people . Hoo boy.

Consider that summarizing it as a single quantity is already unwarranted and somewhat arbitrary. The question should be about the utility. What is the utility of having one major number that is supposedly quantitative and consistent rathe

An analysis of what is efficacious for opposing "extremism" is pointless without also looking at the cause(s) of that "extremism" or being able to identify natural experiments. Natural experiments: looking at Germany and

The ruling powers have no interest in doing it. This is more a political problem than a technical one. Many similar choices have been made to go down the path we're currently on: - To treat it as a "third world" issue, as suc

I would guess that very few people are reading, editing, or re-running your code, though, which kind of changes the nature of discussing a programming language. Otherwise they'd all need to know and want to use Common Lisp. This isn&#x

A 2% difference is pretty small, though. Small enough that the top four or so minifiers appeared to have very similar performance - just depended on which codebase you were using. If you're picking a minifier, I'd definitely go wi

Please note that this is a slow process and the stocks may be worthless by the time you completed the transfer. They will also likely freeze your ability to do anything with those stocks during that time. Some people say up to 15 days. If y

The case of GME is more complicated than only being highly shorted. A short squeeze doesn't emerge solely from being highly shorted. Please be very careful with any single-stock gamble.

If the core problem is volatility, then freezing trades would be the natural response. They froze only the 'buy' option on their app. Selling would still go through and they'd still have to process those trades. There would s

For a project where a sole primary maintainer is the only option, this makes perfect sense. For long-term viability of a popular project, I think you'll eventually need more maintainers, which brings back most of the problems of having

The ceiling method matches with the expectation of how much time is left when the major digit changes, which is the same as how we do countdowns verbally in English. We say, "5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0", not "4, 3, 2, 1, 0, done".

You can purchase a monitor. This follows the philosophy of buying separate dumb devices that only do one thing. A dumb TV is just a monitor + speakers + a TV tuner, after all.
