Mr. Larive is spot on in his opinion, and I think he offers good solutions to the dilemmas of business response and participation. Yelp is representative of a fundamental problem with so many review sites, and our society at large -- namely

Brilliant! And they used Kennedy's kung-fu song. It's so good I wonder if it is actually real.

Funny and cool use of price arbitrage -- assuming the LA times article is correct in its assumptions.

Very cool. This is my current suite of DB apps: - Navicat - PGAdmin III - SeqlPro Looks like I will add this as a fourth. Big win on the visualization feature!

People are touting S3, but you pay twice -- storage and transfer. Using the most inexpensive options with S3, a 1 gigabyte file (with reduced redundancy) with 1 download per month would run you $0.21. Even without the one download this woul

I get the sentiment, but this is entirely wrong-headed. The author is aiming for a land-grab of libraries? It sounds like the author wants to displace a good (but admittedly underutilized) public service because the coffee shops in the East

Christ people! This is so stupid I have to think we have been trolled with this one. "Optimized for writing, not reading?" You have to be kidding me, right? Yes -- and the Romans had indoor plumbing, aquaducts, and crosswalks. All just as a

This was a really useful post. Thank you. This is a good solution where people will use a site infrequently.

If you have a lot of storage needs then self-hosted is the way to go. We have 30TB storage mirrored across two data centers and pay less than $500 a month. There is a copy on the east coast, one on the west coast, and one in the office. I w

Interesting story -- I've attempted to use mturk a few times in the past, but it is actually a lot of work to get it right. Good instructions are really important, as well as a way to measure performance. Good luck to them as I think they m

I've found a lot of good information and deals at webhostingtalk.com. It is a just a forum where the webhosting providers big, small, and in-between meet and share. Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with webhostingtalk -- just a user there.

I'd be happy to share -- maybe we could take the todo.js example a but further and make it pretty with boostrap? Hell, I would even strip out the localStorage and include a php script that hits a sqlite database.

I've been using the new twitter bootstrap with backbonejs for some prototypes and have progressed much faster than I anticipated. The learning curve on this one was not bad at all -- the examples are great!

Sorry to reply to my own post, but I needed to add some more context: The front page of HN was crammed with links about SOPA and godaddy. I started to wonder what the actual impact of this brouhaha had on their business, or was it just a fe

Good luck, brother. I had the same moment this week and launched an idea this past Monday. I didn't get much traction here on HN, but I did in other places. The response was overwhelming, and we raised some seed money last night over drinks

In the first version of the site we had a model for renters, brokers, and landlords. We tried to service everyone through on place. However, after we built it I realized that I would never use that site. I wanted to build a site for tenants

That is the million dollar question. Our main strategy is community development around Addressory. Let's build a community of renters and tenants, by renters and tenants. Let's talk about quality of life issues, like the ones discussed in t
