pg is certainly not the best speaker I've seen but is one of my favourites to listen to. Every word has so much value behind it, and the honesty of his thoughts comes across much better in-person than in-essay. I notice pg uses footnotes ve

Here is a very petty point that isn't mentioned in the guidelines, but implied by example: Is there a good reason why people don't like putting a space after a colon? Such as... margin:0; Instead of... margin: 0; The latte

Question: What was the conversion rate—how many users were asked to leave a review vs many actually did it? I wonder if you could compare the quality of different cohorts of users based on how willing they are to go say nice things about yo

Have a look at IPython for a more code-exploration oriented experience. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipython (Sadly the homepage doesn't quite get the simpler sell points across as well. http://ipython.org/ )

It varies. When I was helping @limedaring learn Python, I'd read source with her and explain what it does. Quite often I'd feel somewhat embarrassed when explaining what a line does by verbatim reading what it says. "for user in users: ..."

Thanks for making the effort! Unfortunately I don't think there's anything we can do about Safari crashing while taking a screenshot at an inopportune time. Perhaps we can try to find someone on HN who works on at Apple?

It doesn't seem to me that the father of the 18-month old son is trading the chance to spend time with his offspring for cold hard work, but rather trading it for salsa dancing classes, a couple of pints at the bar with his friends, and wha

The salary is scaled to the cost of living. Even Google doesn't pay the same if you're working in Mountain View or Waterloo or Australia. $100k base salary in Waterloo adjusted for cost of living would be like an $180k base salary in Mounta

Alright, I am convinced that Waterloo students get more joy out of doing four four-month jobs than Toronto students get out of doing one eighteen-month job. What I'm not convinced of is the resulting value-add to the student's career. The w

Agreed, and I worked on some really cool large-scale projects when I got my first job right out of school. I didn't have great grades, I didn't have the top scores on coding sites, but I did have some personal projects and I networked, inte

See the response I gave to potatolicious. Because you didn't know what you wanted to pursue and wanted to sample around, I'd say you're within one of the cases where coop is a good value.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there is no employment obligation for 18 months. You go through the same interview process and you can get fired just like any other employee. This is no different than hiring any other employee. > Long terms
