Thank you for passing this on. I've been circling the concept but haven't ever heard it pinned down. One often comes with the other so it's difficult to separate the two, but at the same time the strategies needed to overcome

For what it's worth I was lost too. Even with the explanation it took a few minutes to fully parse.

This is something that's been on my mind a lot over the past few years. I think things were on that trajectory, but somewhere along the line it got out of wack. User interfaces became more user-friendly [0], while developer experience

Florida has plenty of shade, though you wouldn't know it considering our city planning. Anything that isn't too dense for humans is pure urban hellscape.

Yeah, there are a lot of odd inclusions like that; things that overlap or replace standard lua flow for no reason (see ternary expressions[0]). I would love an expanded lua, with built-in classes and a more robust standard library, but this

Science as a principle is beautiful and valuable, and is entirely worthy of preservation. The industry surrounding it, less so. They are not inseparable. The latter has proven a poor steward of the former, and it's the latter that'

It seems like no more than a year ago the prevailing narrative was problems with higher education and science: how predatory and insidious the student loan industry is, and how it traps people in a cycle of debt with special treatment from

Apollo 17 astronauts discovering orange on the moon [0]. Probably my favorite recording from any Apollo mission. Their childlike glee is infectious. [0] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ipj1aFZxTt0

One thing to keep in mind is that it takes practice. It won't be easy at first, even if your strategy is perfect. So don't be disheartened by bouncing off books or only being able to read ten minutes at a time to start with. Just

I enjoy the kind of analysis the author talks about, and also see the anti-intellectualism among younger folks. I too have felt disconnected from the many people who aren't interested in taking a deeper look into things. But when posts

This is neither here nor there, but it's interesting that the only personification made more often by non-autistic people is gender. Demographics may explain this but I wonder if there are more broad differences in how autistic people

I played around with it a few months back. Interesting project, but it never quite clicked for me. Sort of for the same reasons I bounced off Wren; both it and Luxe are more carefully structured and verbose than I want from something high-l

I have a version without cutter teeth at all, what I did was take a piece of the cutter thing from an aluminum foil roll and attach it to the printer. Works perfectly. Looks a little menacing though.

I think game jams are a bit overrated, but when you're feeling stuck they're great for getting unstuck. For my big passion projects I get hung up on all the peripheral things you mention like music and art too, but game jams force

Visually very reminiscent of Win7 Aero, yet the 'unified' approach plus low information density is much more Win8 Metro (with some modern/Apple tweaks). A charming era of design but not one that deserves revisiting in such a

This is not a criticism of the developers at all, and certainly not their sentiments. I am behind those 100%. But. There are so many fantastic games made with just as much heart out there that don't have a tweet go viral and revitalize

While the overall message of the post rings true, I do think it deserves some criticism for the framing device of American vs. European. Let me explain. First, it has to be said, online cultural osmosis and working for an international Amer

It's a shame this sort of thing leads to legal threats instead of job offers. Still, I wonder why the author didn't keep it up and just remove the branding - call it the "Waffle Home Index" or something.

Very cool! I'll play more around with this later but right off the site UX is great. Being able to hit 'launch editor' and have it load a project right up without requiring an account or anything is just beautiful.
