Same here, I've never heard the phrase "DuPont connector" until this article (I would also call them 0.1" pin headers). But I thought it still had a nice exploration of the history of that terminology and the connector i

I am not putting words in your mouth. I am trying to understand what your concern is. Every major vendor of Linux distributions maintains their own source tree with patches specific to their usage. That is the way Linux is normally used. So

What about when the admins of the most popular "social blocklist feeds" decide to put your instance on the block list? How is the cartelization problem solved there? You can say that the blocklists will be voluntary but instance p

Can you explain what modifications you believe it has that typical installations of Linux don't?

It is basically an unmodified kernel. Like in any purpose-built usage of Linux, it is compiled with specific options and patches for the environment it is made to run in, but you can replace it with your own kernel image if you want.

"Jailing" isn't necessarily just about security, but isolation in general. Unveil would be a stronger tool if the concern is strictly security, but also there's no reason they couldn't both be used. Chroot is itself

The use case is isolation, which is not necessarily exactly the same as reducing access. For example, maybe you don't want the process to be able to easily detect that it has had its access reduced, by simulating a full-access environm

Unveil has no way to change the existing structure of the filesystem. With chroot it's easy: create the structure you want in a subdirectory and then chroot into it

That doesn't let you construct an arbitrarily structured virtualized filesystem like chroot does, just hide parts of the existing filesystem

As I asked in the other part of this thread: Would you feel differently if he sold the bitcoins and then immediately bought them again before participating in the scam? Of course not. Even though that would make them "realized", t

I think this is a pointless distinction. A 500k bank balance is just an "opportunity" to withdraw 500k of cash. There are a number of things that could bring your bank balance to $0 without the scam. 500k of cash is just an "

I will reply to this despite the fact that it's an obvious troll and has nothing to do with the topic at hand (this thread isn't even about Bitcoin). People are actually using Bitcoin strictly because it lacks a government backing

The incentives of the miners are aligned with the users: The miners mine and then they get paid. If the incumbent miners stop mining in protest of their future profits declining, then new miners will just come in to take the profits they ar

If the current group of Ethereum miners decide to stop mining, why wouldn't new parties come in to take the profits they are leaving behind?

They are paid fairly in exchange for providing it. If the current set of miners decide that they don't like Ethereum anymore then those profits are sitting on the table for anyone to take.

If a big government seized control of a coin's development, it would surely lose most of its value and users would likely just create a fork which is not under that government's control.

The point of the analogy is that they are being paid to provide a service, and if they have a disagreement about it, then their only choice is to forefit their profits and let someone else come in to extract them instead.
