There is no such thing as physically based rendering, and the sooner the world learns this the better. It’s a marketing term, nothing more. Here’s food for thought: what does it mean to multiply two colors? Nothing. It’s meaningless. It’s a

Heh, just experienced this myself. Spirit of a contract is important, and not really something that can be codified.

That is in fact why the mods boot many of the most-upvoted comments to the bottom of the thread. I think it’s incorrect to say that half the time you’ll see such comments at the top.

It's offensive to claim that you know what's better for someone than the person living the life. Humans Need Not Apply is an interesting perspective on some of these issues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Pq-S557

A continuation is best understood by trying to implement an evaluator that can pause. An evaluator is just a function that takes in some JSON and spits out a result. [if [> 2 1] 8 9] would produce 8. Say you wanted to pause during the ev

Even the “no porn” is giving up freedoms. The megacorps wouldn’t have allowed the web to evolve into such a massive sandbox if they’d known how much of an effect it would have. Just like Apple didn’t, with the App Store. The same situation

Here’s an interesting question to turn over this lovely Sunday afternoon. What stops you from implementing this yourself? Why? Chrome is supposedly open source. So is Firefox. It’s an important question, because the answers lead to the reas

Sorry, 2AM. You're right of course. I think the real message is that this is a new class of timing attack, and that it should be treated as such. E.g. curl itself needs to be updated to buffer its own output.

That's mistaken because: bash -c "`echo echo hi`" note that `echo echo hi` is fully read, and then (and only then) passed to bash. ditto for echo -c "`curl <your url>`" The curl command isn'

Most of the comments seem to divide into two categories: those who have experienced this failure mode, and those attacking the author. As someone who has learned not to do this, here is what the author is saying. You subconsciously care abo

For https://github.com/mit-pdos/xv6-public/commit/6389d9d4103eae... Seems fine. It’s hardly worth noting. May as well write “Minor” and use your time more efficiently.

Does anyone know how to extend xv6 with copy-on-write? I was implementing a multiprocessing lib based on xv6 but noticed a fork copied the entire parent page table. I think it’s a matter of extending the page fault routine to check whethe

If WebGL were a 2D API, it would have made it impossible to do this kind of work. Also VR in general.
