Jee. Sus. Why? What benefit did anyone think that would have? Better than half the point of using SQL goes out the window if you can’t query across tables.

Working for a living is kinda a give-away. In a Fussellian socialized-class sense most tech folks probably come from upper-prole, middle, and upper-middle backgrounds, and the values of the tech crowd itself—the ones it tends to imprint on

Incidentally, is there a way to disable service workers on desktop Safari? Twitter’s went rogue the other day and started eating a whole core, non-stop. I don’t want or need them. Ever. Hopefully mobile safari doesn’t let developers do that

Firefox Focus on iOS can block ads in Safari, too, oddly enough. And it's free. It's not uBlock Origin but it does the job well enough I've not bothered to look for any other solutions.

"Faster" was one of the huge selling points of FF initially, too. Non-nerds could tell the difference (over, say, IE or Mozilla/Netscape Navigator) even. It was light and lean as hell. Hasn't been the case since well bef

When I switched Firefox liked to make my Macbook run hot and to trigger frequent system-wide beachballs when it wasn't foregrounded, with just a few tabs loaded. And just having it open killed my battery. This was, like, 2011 I think.

Hopefully that was intended with the implied restriction "in modernity", i.e. since approximately the lead-up to the Enlightenment, since that'd be a position that could be given a credible defense, at least.

I definitely understand the assertion that if you take too long to experience some piece of media, it harms the experience of it in a not-insignificant way. At the extreme end, it's certainly possible to put something down so long that

Hm. ~$600/yr for a not-great data plan. Call it $200/yr for the cheapest phone that won't make you want to toss it off a bridge or crush it underfoot, if you keep it three years. $800/yr as kinda the minimum to have a ph

IMO if your data model's still so nebulous that you're changing it so often that SQL migrations are a serious impediment to progress, you probably don't need any real datastore yet. You can usually figure out WTF you'r

On $50,000/yr? Lots and lots of households are doing exactly that, yes, especially if we're calling that after-tax income. But no, not by spending only 15% of their income per month. More like 100%. It'd take 15% of $50k just
