I guess this is a problem with proverbs: lack of context. For architectural design or requirements elicitation it's all about improving with iterations. However with detailed design you can be quite precise and shouldn't just wi

Unfortunately I only agree with a handful of these particular proverbs. The set of proverbs that I've found are truly useful to programmers would be "The Zen of Python" (open a Python session and run `import this`) The Zen o

I obtained my degree in Software Engineering at a university where engineering grade mathematics and physics were mandatory subjects. It really annoys me that I spent 4 years studying this to find that other people who scrape together snipp

What I find amusing is the fact that quite a few people didn't even bother to change the designer blurb, which to me suggests they know absolutely f all about design and hints at why they find it necessary to copy in the first place.

Sure you could, if the code is complex enough you would hide dead code acting as a signature, which would be somewhat analogous to mapmakers inserting false towns in their maps [1] [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trap

I was watching "Five Easy Pieces" the other day and instantly recognised the sound effect for the garbage compactor from episode IV. In this particular film it was the sound of the oil pump equipment in one of the scenes at the oi

I've actually seen people use versioning in their URLs for deprecated APIs only , with the current version not using a version number.

Chances are you're (well at least with me) going to do filtering anyway so /artist/8/albums becomes redundant ;)

In this case I would either make albums a field of artist, or just leave it off altogether and just filter /albums based on the artist foreign key.

Query parameters on the collection. Dealing with ranges is always a tricky one though and I've seen different REST libraries use different querying.
