Over at howl.io we've been working on another Lua/moonscript based editor. Incidentally it used scintilla as well until we switched to an in-house engine called aullar. The author wrote a blog post about it: https://how

Yeah I rarely post images online so I used the first google result. Later I realized imgur might be the better choice. Posted another image here: http://imgur.com/a/14l3y

Yes I find Howl so much better than the elisp and emacs archaic API.

Can you give a ballpark estimate of the sizes of these files?

There is no terminal frontend. Yes 'LuaJIT emacs' with a nice API is probably a good description. It does have a vi editing mode as well.

Just here to plug an up-and-coming editor called Howl: https://howl.io I did some of these tests with Howl, here are the better numbers: - Memory (hello.c): 22748 (RSS) - Rehighlight test: about 3s - Time used to load test.xml,

While we're on the topic of other editors - I found an editor that I could customize to work exactly the way I want ( https://howl.io ). And yes, I've used Emacs and written elisp to try and do the same - it just wasn&

What are the main use cases of multiple cursors? It seemed like an interesting feature, and I'm curious why it would be considered essential.

What do you mean by 'plugs in'? Is it just that Atom has good support for syntax highlighting or something else?

Excellent! It should be zippy for largish files too :D Here's a link to video segment showing opening a large number of files: https://youtu.be/FmxKXWXj90c?t=24m50s

I just wanted to plug an up-and-coming editor called Howl ( http://howl.io ). Written in and extended using Lua (actually Moonscript), not Javascript, and definitely very easy to extend. As an ex-emacs users I do find it similar i

There is already ycmd, srclib etc. so there already are other common protocol that try to unify different languages.

Ah yes - I find that really useful too! Do you know how Emacs handles too many recursive listings? Howl just truncates the search after 3 seconds and I'm wondering if there's something better we can do.

Seconded. Everytime I've tried VSCode I've been very impressed. (More than every time I tried Atom). It's snappy, has a nice UI and lot of great out of the box features.

In terms of ease of extensibility, I haven't found anything better than Howl ( http://howl.io ). Disclosure: I'm one of the contributors.

What, in particular, about the UI don't you like? Is it just the lack of tabs?

Thank you. Yes it's kind of like a modernized Emacs with a very nice API in Lua. I haven't used Vim so can't say about the similarity there but it does have a Vim mode. Do you mean the normal file browser or the recursive

Another one to try is Howl ( http://howl.io ) It's newish but very stable and uses Lua (not Javascript) as the extension language. It is very lightweight and faster than Atom. Disclosure: I'm one of the contributors.

There's no framework at the moment, but will probably be added at some point. Currently packages are easily installed be just copying the folder into a 'bundles' directory. Note that there's a lot of built-in functionali
